Maura was getting into bed, ten o clock was early, even for her but they'd had a hell of a week filled with back to back cases. She picked up her phone to text Jane goodnight, something that had become a ritual for the two, when she received a message from her.

'Are you awake?'

Straight away Maura knew something was up, Jane didn't just ask if she was awake.

'Yes. What's wrong?'

Maura was no longer tired. Jane's reply couldn't come sooner.

'Fell asleep on the couch, had a nightmare. Just need to talk to you.'

'Well I'm here. Want to talk about it?'

She worried about her friend. It was possible that she had PTSD after what Hoyt had done. Her phone buzzed quicker this time.

'It was the usual, I just hate that he can get into my head like he does, he always knocks me off balance and leaves me feeling unstable.'

Maura had an idea of how to help her friend. A study she'd read about.

'Will you try something for me?'

Again a nearly immediate reply.

'I'll try anything at this stage.'

'Okay, please list three good things that happened to you today.'

Maura didn't know if it was going to work but it was worth a shot, she hated seeing her friend hurting. Jane was taking a very long time to reply this time. The minutes ticked by as Maura stared at her phone. Maybe Jane had fallen asleep?

Maura was just contemplating calling her friend to see if she was okay when her phone flashed. She took a deep breath before looking at the message.

1. I have you

2. Won $10 off Korsak on a bet

3. I chased a really fast perp and caught him

Maura's heart skipped a beat when she read the first line but quickly scolded herself before replying.

'Do you feel any better? And I'm on your list?'

She knew she shouldn't have added the second part but it was sent now, she couldn't do anything about it. This time her phone buzzed quickly again.

'Maur you're always on that list.'

Jane was sitting in her apartment after the strange conversation with Maura. She had stopped replying after Jane told her she was always on the list and Jane hoped she hadn't crossed some line. Maybe Maura had fallen asleep. Or not seen the message.

Jane was starting to worry though. Her best friend always replied unless she had a good reason. A very good one.

The first thing Jane thought was that maybe she should call. But that wasn't enough. What if something was wrong? She quickly looked down at her clothes and decided that a Red Sox jersey and sweats would be okay to go outside in. They had to be. She threw on shoes and a hoodie before grabbing her keys and phone.

She opened her door to the sight of a very startled looking Maura with her hand raised in a fist to knock on the door that had been there seconds previously.

"Maura-"

"No, Jane listen, I had to come say this in person. You... you're always on my list too."
