A/N: This is just a short story that I wrote for my English class and decided to post. The assignment was to write about what you thought happened to Jonas at the end of Chapter 23. This is a one-shot and I hope you like it. Review.
Disclaimer: I do not own the Giver in any way or form.
He was cold and wet. Jonas forced his sore and tired body to sit up. His head pounded as if there was a hammer banging against his head. A cold wind sliced through him and stung his skin. His teeth chattered as the snow seeped through his tunic.
Jonas reached next to him to find Gaberiel. His hand touched the icy snow. Gabriel wasn't there. Panic surged through his veins. Jonas began to search franticly for the toddler.
"Do you need help ?" Jonas heard a voice ask from behind him. He spun around to find a girl about his height facing him. She had long, sleek lightly colored hair with piercing blue eyes. She was dressed more appropriately for the freezing weather. The girl had on a ruby red knit hat and a matching coat.
"Yeah, I do. Have you seen a small boy ?" Jonas answered. His felt himself fill with hope when the girl motioned for him to follow her. The duo headed to the small brick home in the snow.
Jonas walked into the small home as a rush of warmth met his skin. The delicious smell of apple pie met his nose as caused his mouth to water. A bushy tree with blue and white lights sat in the corner of the small room. The tree was so tall that its top was only centimeters from the ceiling .There was a fireplace to his left that was a sure cause for the warmth. In front of the fireplace was plush burgundy colored couch.
The girl told him to wait there while she went through a door on the other side of the room. Jonas' body ached to sit. He took the liberty to take a seat on the plush couch. Jonas sank into the couch as if he was on a cloud. Jonas tried to stifle a yawn as he felt himself get tired. His eyelids got heavy and he struggled to keep them up. After trying to fight sleep for several minutes he finally gave in. Jonas drifted into a dreamless sleep.
Jonas woke to find Gaberiel sleeping soundly on his lap. Jonas smiled as he stroked the boy's hair. He looked up from the toddler to see the Giver looking at him. Jonas gasped in surprise.
"Giver, what are you doing here ?" Jonas questioned.
"I wanted to be with my daughter Jonas." Giver answered with a smile. Jonas tilted his head in confusion. Rosemary was the Giver's daughter but she wasn't alive. She released herself. This confused Jonas.
The girl that Jonas followed into the house now entered the room. She plopped herself down onto the couch that Jonas and Gaberiel sat. She smiled at the two boys and the Giver. Jonas turned to face the blue eyed girl.
"I want to thank you, but I don't know who you are." Jonas stated.
"You're welcome. I'm glad to help and my name is Rosemary." She stated with a smile so bright it was like the sun. Jonas' jaw dropped and he turned his head to look at the Giver. The Giver nodded as so did Rosemary.
It was then Jonas realized what Elsewhere was. He knew where he was now. Elsewhere was heaven. He wasn't alive anymore and neither was Gabe. He was dead. They all were dead.
A/N: Review and tell me if you like it !
