Scorpius and I were up in the Astronomy tower late at night, way past curfew. We were just enjoying each other's company before we had to board the train for Christmas break the next morning. While it was cold up there, we had a warm blanket wrapped around us. Quite often, the two of us would just sit in a comfortable silence together when we had nothing to say, cherishing the close friendship that we had formed from my first year at Hogwarts. Even though this is what I thought about for a while, something hit me that I really detested having to think about; my family. While I still loved them dearly, the way they had been treating me over the past four years was enough to break me. However, I always had Scorpius to keep me strong.
So naturally, I turned to look at him and saw that he was admiring the scattered stars. Instead of immediately saying something, I watched him for a moment and really appreciated the relaxed look on his face. It was rare that he took the time to be calm and not worry about school work or Quidditch. Without realizing how long I had been staring, Scorpius turned to me and smiled.
"What are you thinking about?" he wondered.
"Family", I admitted, and he sighed lightly. Of all my friends, Scorpius knew the most about my troubles with family. Seeing as James, Albus, Rose, and Hugo pretty much hated him, he could understand the severity of their ignorance. The only reasons they had for ignoring me and treating me like trash were that I was sorted into Slytherin, and I chose to be friends with Scorpius.
"What about them?" he eventually asked, clearly concerned about me. Before I responded, I stopped to think for a moment about how badly I wanted the distance between myself, brothers, and cousins to stop. The want suddenly became so strong that a few tears escaped my eyes and slowly slid down my cheeks.
"They just..." I began, stopping to gather my thoughts before lashing out, "They're so unfair! I know I've said this a million times since we've met, but I'm so sick of them acting as if I'm not even a part of the family. I've had enough of my brothers calling me a snake, my cousins avoiding me, all of them judging me based on my house, my-" suddenly, I was cut off by a soft pair of lips. My eyes widened, realizing it was Scorpius, but I didn't pull away. Instead, I closed my eyes and eagerly deepened the kiss. We stayed with our lips locked, gently rocking back and fourth for what seemed like ages. However, that didn't seem long enough because when we pulled apart, I found myself longing for more. Deciding against that, I just stared at him in shock, not able to find the right words to say. As it turns out, I didn't have to.
"I love you, Lily Luna", he stated, making it clear with each word that he meant exactly what he said. Before I could stop myself, the words slipped out of my mouth:
"I love you too, Scorpius Hyperion", I admitted, smiling simply to let him know that I wasn't lying. He let out a breath of a laugh, looking away from me and down at the floor of the tower, "What is it?" I asked.
"Nothing, I just... I've been waiting for two years to tell you that", he admitted, sending me back into a state of shock before admitting for myself that I had been waiting for just as long. We both laughed nervously at this.
"Have I really been that blind? I didn't think you would ever feel the same", this confession made me wonder how I hadn't noticed his love for me, either. I told him this, and he simply smiled.
"In that case, will you be my girlfriend, Lily?" he finally asked.
"Of course I will, Scor", I promised, smiling widely and pulling him into a tight hug. We kissed one more time before lying down on the blanket, entwining our fingers and enjoying the view of the stars together.
