Edward's Promise

A/N: Just a random poem, after the wedding night. A day in the meadow…

Forbidden fruit

Always tastes sweeter

When the stakes are high

And the risks are worth taking.

Gold eyes, soft warm eyes

Cold, alabaster skin shimmering

Like diamonds in the meadow

Our own paradise, our own Eden.

"Do you want this?"

He's stalling for time, his warm eyes concerned

He kisses me, holding me close then slowly pulling away

To touch my face, kiss my cheeks; kiss my mouth again

"Are you sure? There's no going back."

His voice is soft, solemn

He doesn't know my thoughts but I wish he did

To know I want to spend forever with him

To lay with him here in the meadow, content

Never die, never sleep.

"Yes,"

My voice is a whisper.

"You promised."

His laugh is soft but weak, his breath sweet on my skin

I concentrate only on him as he bends over,

His lips brush over my neck "I'll miss this." He whispers.

He means my heartbeat but I know those things fade and die.

His fingers touch my cheek and I bare my throat

"Bella?"

His voice is soft, more a statement then a question

There's pain in his eyes and strain in his beautiful voice

"Edward…?"

He draws away, threading his fingers through my hair

Before clasping his hand with mine, icy but comfortable.

Bending over me again, his smell drugs me

I feel relief flood me as his flawless lips trace my throat…

He's murmuring my name, clinging to my warmth

To my blood's scent, the floral smell in my hair—

To the Bella Swan he knew all those months ago,

To the Bella he fell in love with and still loved—

His teeth finally sink in

The venom races…

And the apple bleeds.
