The Mask I Wear

By Hime Neko

When you look at me

What is it you see?

A man filled with hurt

Or one filled with childish glee

I wear this mask

To protect me from the pain

Of all the world's hurt and hate

The heat of the sun and the cold of the rain

To protect my heart

With iron bars

To hide behind

So no one sees my scars

Only on stage am I truly Free

Free from hiding behind my closed gate

Free from the world

Free from my lonely fate

Up here I am a god

No one can hurt the untouchable

No one can wound the immortal

Here where the heavens are almost tangible

I am at peace

Until the stage light once again goes out

Until I once again return to the world

And once again the pain I feel will shout

I slip back on my mask

Hiding beneath my sanctuary

Concealing wounds so my friends never ask

I become the false happy-go-lucky self once again
