A/N: Technically I'm no longer a G/S shipper, but given the right amount of sleep deprivation and motivation, anything can happen. (It's 1am, so any typos (or nonsense) are because it's too late to do this, but I won't write it when I'm awake.)
Solace
She was mad at herself for not realizing he was guilty. She held the hand of the man who murdered six women. The same hands which had ended the life of the woman whose face haunted her. She felt foolish and disgusting.
Grissom, the man she had grown to love stood behind her as she cried. His presence was a comfort to her. She felt the tears drip from her eyes, and didn't care if anyone saw them. Grissom wiped away some of her tears with his fingers, a kind gesture, if not a completely affectionate one. She turned to face him and saw the look of concern in his eyes.
She didn't cry very often, and yet he had seen her cry most of the times she had. He gently brushed away the tears from her cheeks, even though more kept coming. She wanted to run everytime she cried in front of someone, but she had learned to trust him, and he had learned to trust her.
She was trying to stop the tears from coming. The tears of anger and sadness, intermingling. She under no circumstances wanted to cry in the lab.
He knew that she was fighting the tears, and knew that she didn't want anyone to see, even though there was no one else around. So Grissom wrapped his arms around her and let her bury her face in his chest. No one would see the tears, and anyone who saw, would know that she been through a rough day. He held her tightly, and she let go, finally releasing the sobs she had been holding in.
They stood there for several minutes, him giving her the solace she needed to make it out of the lab without breaking down in tears again. Eventually she stepped back from his embrace, and wiped her face. She smiled weakly at him, to let him know she appreciated everything he did and was.
They walked out of the lab together, and he drove her home. They paused at her door and hugged. Then, he kissed her lightly on the lips.
"Thank you," she whispered. "For being there when I need you."
"I always will be," he replied softly.
He turned to leave, but she laid a hand on his arm. "Can you stay? I don't want to be alone, I don't know if I'll sleep."
"I'll stay."
As they lay in bed, he wrapped his arms around her. He was her comfort; her solace from living in the world.
The End
