Chapter 1: Hero's Return

Ω Throne room of Olympus Ω

All that could be heard in the throne room of the Olympian gods was the crackling of the central hearth as it was tended to by Hestia. As the goddess, in her 10 year old form, tended to the hearth of Olympus, she felt a breeze, with a hint of salt in it, waft through the vast chamber and looked up to see the sea god & ruler of the seas Poseidon standing near the hearth, in the direction of his throne. She smiled kindly at him as he smiled sadly at her and he proceeded towards his throne.

The other gods began to enter the throne room in their own ways: Hermes through one of the open windows on his winged sandals; Athena appeared in a burst of owls (feeling theatrical today); Aphrodite in a puff of lilac scented perfume; Ares entered the chamber in a burst of flame, looking to be saddened by something (which wasn't like him); Hephaestus just calmly walked through the throne room doors, already being on Olympus, working its forges; Dionysus appeared in a scented wind, much the same way as Poseidon; Hades simply walked out of one the many shadows cast by the flames of the hearth; Demeter entered in a gentle breeze that smelled of freshly baked bread; Apollo appeared in a burst of sunlight while his twin sister Artemis appeared in a softer burst of moonlight, seeming happier than usual; finally Zeus & Hera in a massive clap of thunder, bursts of lighting & a shower of peacock feathers proceeding them.

Poseidon, Hades, & Artemis rolled their eyes at the theatrical entrance, muttering under their breaths "Drama King & Queen", while Hermes & Apollo held up signs with large tens written on them as fireworks (for some reason) began to shoot into the air.

After smirking at the rest of the council & giving short, but exaggerated, bows to them, Zeus & Hera took the high thrones. Soon after the reigning king & queen of Olympus sat down, the atmosphere became far more serious than it was moments ago, though there was still hints of amusement shown by each of the Gods & Goddesses seated there (except by Dionysus who had already fallen asleep)

Hera officially began the Council by elongating her scepter (basically a shortened staff) adorned with the metallic head of a peacock with a pomegranate in its beak at the tip, with an array of magically shrunken peacock feathers behind the head (the scepter & pomegranate are symbols of Hera while the peacock is one of two of her sacred animals), and thumping it on the ground three times, signaling the beginning of the council.

Zeus then spoke first saying "Before Athena & Artemis bring forth their reports, is there anything someone would like to discuss after the reports are given?" Poseidon then sighed & said "I believe you know what I wish to discuss brother."

At this, the atmosphere became far gloomier than it once was (with the exception of a handful of goddesses), everyone knowing exactly what he wished to discuss. Zeus nodded & replied saying "Yes I do brother & we will discuss that after Artemis' report. Is there anyone else?" No one replied & Zeus motioned for Athena to begin her reports.

Now a little explanation is probably in order. After the war against Gaia & the Giants, another war nearly broke out again, this time between the Gods themselves. The minor Gods of both Greece & Rome realized that now was the rime for change. Even though their children were finally given recognition, thanks to Percy Jackson at the end of the 2nd Titan War, both they & their children had still not received the same respect that the Olympians had, or even close to it. While some of the minor Gods still sided with the Olympians, such as Hercules, others decided to stay neutral in the conflict, such as Thanatos (god of non-violent death) & Hebe (goddess of Youth, wife of Hercules, & former cup bearer of Olympus).

The majority of the minor Gods decided to confront the Olympians & demand change, or face a third war in less than 10 years. Even though they were the Olympians, even they were war weary, and did not wish to fight yet another war, this time against many of their own children & family. Hestia, Artemis, Aphrodite & Hephaestus refused to take part if the conflict came to blows; Hestia because she was the most peaceful of the Olympians & did not want to fight family; Artemis because she did not want to risk her Hunters, who were like daughters in all but blood to her; Aphrodite because she did not like war, even though she dated Ares (plus it would mess up her make-up); and Hephaestus because he did not want to supply either side with the weapons to kill each other with.

Dionysus was asleep at the time but later voted to fight if it came to blows. Ares…. well a possible war was coming, why wouldn't he fight? Demeter, in order to protect her daughter Persephone who sided with Hades, voted to fight, but only if they threw the first blow. Hades was not adamant for another war, but sided with Poseidon. Athena sided with her father, though was reluctant to fight another war. Poseidon abstained from joining, but if any were to attack his kingdom, he would side with the side that did not attack him. Hermes would be neutral, while still ferrying messages for both sides. Apollo sided with his sister, threatening to attack any who attempted to force her & her Hunters to join them, gaining him some respect from the Hunters & improving the brother/sister relationship between Artemis & Apollo. For Hera, it pained her to fight her own family, and refused to do so, much to Zeus' anger at the time. Zeus, at the time, opted for war, even though he too was weary of war.

In a last ditch effort to avoid war, Hestia called for meeting between the minor God & the Olympians to discuss things before things became any worse than they already were. Hestia played mediator, Athena represented the Olympians & Harmonia (goddess of harmony) & Alexiares1 (a son of Hercules & Hebe & god of youth & sports) represented the minor gods & goddesses. The minor gods & goddesses had plenty of things they wished to discuss & reasoned that if there were 2 Olympians at the meeting (even though one was neutral), they could send 2 representatives. Zeus sent Athena because she was his best strategist & would be better suited to work things out. After a week of constant negotiating, a deal was finally made.

The conflict would end before it began if the Olympians would accept the agreed terms: the minor gods & goddesses would have sort of voice in the Olympian council, whether it be a minor god or goddess on the council or one of the council members representing them; both camps were to start giving them & their children the respect they deserve (their gods after all, show some respect); and finally Zeus was to get off his high horse & do his job.

In the last two wars, due to Zeus' arrogance & constant denial, the gods & their children were nearly defeated twice. If Zeus had followed the advice of Athena & others that did take action, the casualties of both wars could have been lessened. More of their children may have survived if action was take sooner. Athena agreed to the terms given by the minor gods' & goddesses' representatives, since Zeus gave the power to accept any terms she deemed fair for both sides. She was named the minor gods' & goddesses' representative on the council & if there was a major problem/issue to be brought forth, they could bring the issue before the council personally. Both sides were happy that war was averted, the most surprising being Ares. Even though he is the God of War, he too was weary of constant warfare & was not as adamant to fight another war as people believed.

ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ

Now back to the council room & Athena's reports. She reported that all seemed well in most of the gods' & goddesses' domains, except for Hecate's (goddess of magic, the night, & witchcraft) & Iris' (goddess of rainbows & messenger of the gods) domains. For some reason both goddess have noticed a spike in mana2 usage in their respective domains & the children of Hecate's usage of magic & the Iris messages sent did not account for this spike. They were able to track the source of the spikes to several locations but could never get a fix on who or what was causing the mana spikes. She reported that once they got more information, they would report back on the issue. After finishing her reports, Athena sat back in her throne & the chamber gained a more somber mood. Everyone knew what Poseidon was going to ask. Zeus motioned for Poseidon to begin & he brought forth the question that was brought forth at every council meeting since it happened. "Has there been any news of my son or his family?"

The Hero or Olympus, Bane of Monsters, & greatest hero of the modern age, Perseus Jackson had, along with his mortal family, gone missing over 2 years ago, with little to no trace of what happened or where they went. Not even Artemis & the Hunters, arguably the best trackers in the world, could find a trace of him or his family, which seemed to rankle the Hunt to no end, though some had their suspicions. Both camps constantly sent out search parties since each camp held Percy in high regard, with Percy holding the title of honorary Praetor in New Rome & Camp Jupiter. Every half-blood kept their eyes & ears open for any sign of Percy while they were on quests. The Amazons kept an eye on all shipping routes for signs of him as well. The children of Hecate (both Greek & Roman) scryed for him, but never seemed to get a lock on him, as if something was interfering with their magic. Nico was usually never seen at either camp, only stopping to visit Hazel & Reyna whenever he was nearby. Leo & Calypso (who finally escaped the island of Ogygia w/ Leo's help) constantly kept an eye out for Percy while they traveled the world, Calypso wishing to see the world & experience it since she could never leave her island. Nobody seemed to be able to locate the God's Champion.

Everyone looked towards Artemis for any new, Poseidon with hope in his eyes, but that was crushed when Artemis just shook her head in the negative. Everyone sighed once again, believing that if Artemis & her hunt could not find him, they may never find him. Poseidon then looked towards Dionysus & Hera, the respective godly representatives & patrons of Camp Half-Blood & Camp Jupiter. The camps were the second source of information if they wished to know if Percy was found.

Dionysus snorted & said "If we had received any information on Jackson, don't you think we would have already told you?" Dionysus had, after the Giant War, gained some respect towards Percy since he was able to take anything Dionysus threw at him & return it back with equal force & was still sane (to a point) after going through what he's gone through.

Hera spoke up & said "Why don't we bring the cabin leaders from Camp Half-Blood & the praetors of Camp Jupiter to tell us in person? I'm sure they haven't told us everything they know." The council agreed on both points & Zeus sent Hermes to gather the cabin leaders from Camp Half-Blood while Ares (as Mars) was sent to collect the praetors Reyna & Frank from New Rome. Frank was given the rank of Praetor since Jason wished to stay at Camp Hal-Blood, Percy willingly gave up the post & for his actions during the Giant War.

After some time, Hermes & Ares flashed back into the throne room with Percy's friends. Reyna & Frank were dressed in golden praetorian armor with purple togas over the armor, with their various medals pinned to the toga. The cabin leaders were dressed in roughly the same outfit: orange Camp Hal-Blood t-shirts, jeans or shorts, & various pieces of armor, such as greaves, breastplates, & archery handguards. Each one seemed to have barely aged since the war, given that each was made immortal for their actions in service of Olympus. Thalia was brought in by Artemis to listen to the meeting & report if anything had come up as well.

When Annabeth saw Thalia, she began to move towards her, but Thalia threw a glare at her & went to stand beside her lady's throne. Annabeth flinched when Thalia glared at her & seemed to shrink into herself, some of the others, such as Piper, comforting her, knowing why Thalia dismissed Annabeth the way she did. Athena & the rest of the council witnessed all of this & took pity on Annabeth, knowing why the daughter of Zeus seemed to dismiss the daughter of Athena, some not putting the full blame on Annabeth & other doing so.

Since some of the others were preoccupied with comforting Annabeth, Jason stepped forth & looked towards his father & asked "Father, why are we here? I thought Lord Dionysus & Lady Hera were supposed to tell the council what we know?" The King of Olympus looked at his Roman-turned-Greek son & replied "Indeed they did (in a way) but we would like to hear the reports from you yourselves." Jason fathered the demigods together, much to Thalia's & Clarisse's (since she too was still hated Annabeth for what she did, especially towards her) ire, to discuss who would present what.

After several minutes of debating who would say what, the group broke apart, with Thalia & Clarisse distancing themselves as far as they could from Annabeth. As Reyna stepped forth to deliver the report from the Romans, Poseidon leaned forward slightly, eager to hear at least the smallest piece of good news about the whereabouts of his son & his mortal family.

Reyna gulped & began, saying "Well as you know, Camp Jupiter has been working with the Amazons to cover the West and …", but before she could continue, the doors to the throne room were thrown open.

Reverting back to his old self for a few seconds, Zeus thundered (AN: pun intended) "WHO DARES INTERRUPT THIS COUNCIL?!"

ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ

There stood the goddesses Hecate & Iris, who were panting heavily, unable to simply flash to the entrance of the throne room since they both have been focusing most of their energies into tracing the mana spikes & maintaining their domains at the same time. After a few second of catching their breath, Hecate said "We've (pant) discovered (pant) another spike (pant) in mana. I (pant) really (pant) need to (pant) get back (pant) in shape." Artemis stood up suddenly & asked "Where is the spike originating from?"

Iris, finally able to catch her breath some more, spoke up saying "There is no need to send (pant) you & your Hunters to search for it. It's (pant) coming from within this chamber."

As if right queue, a sound similar to a gunshot was heard, & the gods & goddesses, along with the demigods present, turned their attention towards what seemed to be a sharper version of an Iris message appear in between the thrones & the hearth. As those in the chamber looked at the Iris message like image, everyone, including the demigods, could feel the power emanating from the image.

Athena spoke up, saying "What is going on? Iris, Hecate?" which is pretty much what was on everyone's mind. But before either goddess could answer, a series of explosions could be heard, emanating from the IM-like occurrence. Several demigods grasped their weapons as well as the gods as the explosions seemed to approach their side.

Everyone watched the IM-like thing as humanoid creatures were seen being blown back by flashes of light & fire as they tried to reach two figures seen standing side to side, both appearing to struggle in trying to hold back the tide of creatures.

One was a man of medium height (about 5'10") of what appeared to be a lithe build (muscular, but leaning more towards athletic than weightlifter) dressed in (from what they could see) a black trench coat with a long hood, black combat boots, & (when the wind from the explosions hit him) loose but fitting black cargo khakis, with a head topped with loosely spiked, windswept silvery white hair.

He fought next to a man slightly taller than him (at around 6'0") with shoulder length black hair, black combat boots, black cargo pants, & what seemed to be a skin tight black t-shirt underneath what seemed to be a metal cuirass with what appeared to be runes carved into it, along with greaves & armguards.

The silver haired man looked behind him & made eye contact with Clarisse, everyone seeing his silver eyes (AN: it's a real thing, look it up). The man, realizing there was a way out, yelled at the man next to him, everyone hearing between explosions "(6 explosions) get to (another 8 explosions) portal! I'll (10 more explosions) off! GO!"

Just as the black haired man began to run towards the portal, a rapidly pulsing topaz gem about the size of a 5 year old's fist landed in between the two men. Artemis realized what the gem was & screamed "NO!" Several of those present wondered why THE man hating goddess was worried about the two men. What they witnessed next shocked many of them, except a select few who knew what was about to happen.

A second after the gem landed, an explosion of light, sound & fire erupted from the topaz, destroying practically everything in a 20 foot radius. The black haired man was thrust towards the throne room by the force of the explosion. He suddenly flew through the portal & was able to right himself in midair before slowing himself to a stop, creating both a large furrow in the floor of the throne room & a rather large dust cloud. As the dust cloud began to settle, the man could be seen standing, coughing to get the dust out of his lungs.

Zeus once again reverted back to his old self briefly & thundered (AN: I'll be here all day people.) once again "WHAT IS GOING ON! WHO ARE YOU BOY! ANSWER ME OR TASTE MY BOLT!"

"Okay, one I don't swing that way & two…really guys? I know I've been gone for two years, but seriously did you forget about me that fast?"

Everyone had different reactions as soon as they heard the man's voice. Artemis, Clarisse, Thalia, & Hera facepalmed at what he said. Annabeth & several other demigods gasped, with Annabeth openly crying. Apollo was (for once) at a loss for words. Ares grinned, thinking "Finally, something is actually going to happen."

Poseidon was in shock. He only said one thing, like a whisper, but one that carried "My…son…"

The dust cloud finally settled & revealed the figure that once stood within it. Sea green eyes sparkling with amusement, windswept black hair, & a grin on his face. He raised his right hand to his eyebrow & giving a two finger salute said "Sorry I'm late guys. I got lost on the road of life."

ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ

In a large walled shinobi village, a man with a mask covering most of his face, a metallic headband with a leaf like symbol in the center covering his left eye, and gravity defying silver hair looked up suddenly from his orange book. Narrowing his right eye, he thought "I sense a disturbance. Some has used one of my excuses."

He suddenly dropped to his knees & cried out in a joyous voice "Thank you Kami! Someone who shares my sense of humor & tardiness!"

At the same time, somewhere in that same village, a green spandex clad middle aged man was heard screaming "YOUTH!" as he was seen traveling along the sides of the walls on his hands. As he did so, the living eye-browed man thought "YOSH! My youthful rival is in joyous exultation! If I cannot match his joyous & youthful celebration, I will do 1000 laps around Konoha on just my pinkies! YOUTH!" He sped up his gravity defying traveling of the walls, all the while screaming at the top of his lungs "YOUTH!"

The Son of Poseidon, Hero of Olympus, Champion of the Gods, Slayer of the Minotaur, Bane of Monsters, Inheritor of Pan's Will, Holder of the Sky, Former Praetor of the Twelfth Legion, and Slayer of Gaea. This man held & earned each of these title & more.

Percy Jackson has returned.
