CHAPTER 1

**Spencer's POV**

My friends and I are having a sleepover together today. We are all giggling in my bedroom as we shuffle through my boxes to find a romantic and cheesy movie to watch. I really hope we don't watch "The Notebook" again, because we always watch that. How many times have I seen that movie? It's cute, but it's getting old. Curse you, Nicholas Sparks. I stand up.

«Guys, I am going to get a soda from downstairs,» I tell them. «Do any of you want any snacks, or something to drink?»

«Bring a six pack of soda!» Aria exclaims. «Preferably coke, but anything is fine. If you have some chips, grab them, too. I'm starving, and this sleepover needs some food to make it more fun.» I chuckle, grin at her, and then walk downstairs. I open my fridge and grab some sodas for my friends, and one for myself. I open the pantry to grab some chips, but there's a knock on my door, which interrupts me. I walk to the door and open it. I freeze when I see who it is.

It's Toby Cavanaugh. I look up, and gaze at him for a moment. His blue eyes are so captivating. Our eyes lock for a moment. He extends his arm, and I look at it. There's a newspaper in his hand. Why does he have a newspaper? I furrow my eyebrows and look at him in confusion. He gets that I'm confused, and opens his mouth to explain.

«Mailman delivered your paper to me,» he explains, causing my lips to form an o shape. I nod my head and take the paper from his hands. Our fingertips brush, and I really want to linger, but I take the newspaper, and nod my head. «Thanks,» I quietly mumble, and he nods his head.

«Any time,» he responds. «I'll see you around, Spencer.» With that, he's gone. Out the door he goes. I shut it, and walk back to my pantry, thinking about that interaction. I feel like I'm overthinking, which I am, but I guess I'm just so struck by him for some reason. I hate the way I feel, it's just that I can't help it! My heart always races around him, and I know why. I just don't want to admit it. I'm a really stubborn person, I guess.

My phone buzzes. I pick it up. It's a text from a blocked number. Is it another one of those sales messages? I already get enough sales calls, I don't need texts, too! I sigh as I unlock my phone and check the message. Surprisingly, it's not a sales text... it's an actual message. I just wish I could know who it's from.

FROM: BLOCKED ID

MESSAGE: Aw, little Spence is in love! Better tell Alison about your crush... before I do. After all, we know that you can't keep a secret, anyways. Kisses, -A

My heart races, and not the good kind of racing that I feel around Toby. Not the feeling of nervousness because of a harmless crush... The feeling of nervousness because I'm feeling unsafe. Alison hates Toby, so I can't let her find out! Somebody knows my secret. Somebody's watching me.
