CHAPTER ONE
He knocked.
And he promptly hid in the nearby bushes.
Will they allow him to join the guild?
Will they think he was too weak? No . . . he was the avatar for Kami's sake; the bridge between the mortal world and the spirit realm. So why is he acting like a chicken pig.
With a renewed resolve, he approached the Fairy Tail entrance door and knocked.
He waited.
And waited.
He waited for some more time.
His shoulders became hunched as his hope dissolved rapidly as the door remained closed. He sighed. Maybe it really wasn't his destiny to join this particular guild. He could try to join Lamia Scale or Quetro Cerberus.
"Momo, it looks like we came over here for nothing." He spoke to his only companion; a cross between a lemur and a bat equipped with large ears and bat-like wings. The hybrid settled on the teen's shoulder and began to chatter happily. The teen then smiled though it didn't reach his eyes.
He forced back the tears of disappointment that threatened to spill. He turned away from the fabled guild's door and began walking away when he heard it.
It was an argument or was it a fight. He wasn't sure, he didn't care. It only means that people are there right now. He ran forward towards the guild door and pushed it open.
He entered the hall right when an old short man – probably the guild master - was saying a speech of somekind. Every eyes turned to him immediately making him nervous.
"Oh. . . I am twinkles to-sorry I mean Aang. May I please join your guild." He said timidly. No one said anything as they continued to look at him and vice versa. He won't fault them if they don't agree for him to join. He is lanky although built in a lithe way, dressed in a monk garb – although with few adjustments to prevent anyone seeing his tattoos - holding a staff while cradling a strange animal. All in all, he looks weird and weak like really weak so yup! He won't be surprised if they don't accept his request.
He was taken aback by a teen with shockingly pink hair that appeared in front of him so fast that Aang thought he had teleported.
"Are you sure you aren't Lucy's cousin?" said the pink-haired teen as he raised a finger in an interrogatory manner.
Aang could only stare at the teen. Who is this Lucy person? His question was answered by a shout that came from a blonde teen. Maybe she is the Lucy the pink haired boy was talking about.
"Hey! Natsu!"
"What Lucy?" He shouted back.
He was right, she was the Lucy person. The last air bender watched in amusement as Natsu and Lucy began bickering over if he was really her cousin. He watched as the bickering stopped immediately the man came down from some type of makeshift podium. Cut him some slack if he didn't know somethings, this world greatly differs from his original world.
The old man stopped just few inches away from him, still holding on to an envelope that was given to him by a young white haired lady. What's with this world and the freaky hair colors.
"You want to join right?" asked the guild master as he scrutinized him.
"Yes, um. . .sir" said Aang.
"I am Makarov Dreyar, the guild master. Let me welcome you to Fairy Tail!" The master suddenly exclaimed smiling as he brought the teen towards the bar. The same lady with white hair approached them.
"What part of your body do you want me to place the mark on?" She asked. The master left him with the white haired lady to go and finish his speech. Apparently he was retiring . . . or not.
"I don't understand. Why do I need a mark for?" asked Aang. What does a stamp have to do with going a guild. Perhaps it grants him unlimited postal advantages or shows his status as a Fairy Tail mage.
"Oh silly me," she laughed softly and although Aang may have a not-so-secret crush on Katara, he had to admit that her laugh is as beautiful as her face. "I forgot to tell you my name. I am Mirajane Strauss, a mage of Fairy Tail. I am about to place a mark on you that signifies your allegiance to the guild. You can choose the color and placement of the mark."
"Oh!" Aang exclaimed. "What if I don't want any mark?" He added hesitantly as he rubbed his neck.
"If you don't have the mark. The magic council won't recognize you as a member of Fairy Tail."
He sighed. He didn't want anyone to see his tattoos yet but he has to take the mark; if not he will be seen as merely a guest of the guild and not a full-fledge memeber.
He raised his top revealing hopefully little of his tattoo. He was welcomed with a gasp that came from Mirajane. Oh spirits! He forgot about his scar. Hopefully he will be able to explain how it came to be without giving the full detail and become the object of pity for the guild members.
Her gasp was a magic word that summoned every occupant of the guild. They all gathered and looked half in awe that a kid can survive this kind of injury that could kill a fully grown wizard and the remaining half in disgust of the wretched being that could do this to a child.
"What happened?" Mirajane asked. Her concern shown vividly on her face.
He waved his hands frantically in front of him. "it's nothing. I swear."
" 'Nothing' can leave that big a wound." Another voice spoke out. This one coming from a red haired lady.
"Child tell us what happened? We might be able to help you." The guild master said this time.
"You don't understand. It happened a long time ago. This is just the scar, it just haven't healed since—" He gave up on trying to explain it to them that it has happened a long time ago. Almost a year and a half since that incident. Instead he breathed in before telling them how it came to be. "I was struck by lightning."
"Surely child, no natural lightning could cause this." Makarov said. He wanted the child to open up. Even though he may be a relative newcomer, he wants the child to see Fairy Tail as his new family.
"Not natural. It was made by someone." Said Aang. He frowns in remembrance of his death.
"How did you survive that kid. No offence but you look weak." A dark haired teen currently only in his undergarments spoke up.
"Now now Gray, you do know that appearance can be deceiving. He may be—"
"I didn't."
Those words plunged the guild hall into silence. These Aang kid just said he died.
but how is he still alive. Everyone was still shocked into silence, well everyone apart from Natsu who voiced the question that ran through the guild member's mind.
"But you are still alive. I hope you aren't a ghost or something."
"Yes. My friend healed me. She brought me back from the dead." Aang answered, a smile tugging at his lips as he remembers the fond memories he had of his friends.
"I would like to meet your friend." A blue haired girl that looked to be close his age declared. She was with a white cat that was currently lecturing her for speaking out of turn.
You can't." He stated. She looked affronted at his rebuttal. "They are gone. All of them." He added.
The guild members took a moment to honor the memories of the forgotten friends. The red haired came up to the young monk and placed a hand on his shoulders.
"Don't be despaired. Even though they are gone, they still live on. In your memories, actions and most importantly your heart." She points at the place his heart is meant to be, "we will be with you through your tough times. We are not just an ordinary guild, we are a family!... "
The members cheered.
"For we are FAIRY TAIL!" She finished, her voice raising to a loud tempo at the end eliciting a loud cheer from the occupants.
Maybe, Aang thought. I was right in picking this guild.
The guild master cleared his throat to gain everyone's attention. He tells everyone that he is retiring and that someone named Gildarts will be his successor, but read the later given to him. He reads it out: In the letter, Gildarts says he does not want to be the master, and the only two orders he will give are for someone named Laxus to return to the guild and for Makarov to be the 6th master. Mira then gives Cana another letter, which contains a 'call Gildarts' card. She tears the card, saying she does not need it. Makarov says that he will be the master until he dies and calls out for booze.
A guild member complains about this Gildarts wanting the guild to be first place, though the red-haired says it is not bad to be ambitious. Then, they start talking about the other guilds that are strong and about how the Tenrou team's power froze during the time skip. He didn't know who the Tenrou team was or what the time skip is but he doesn't know how to approach the question so he instead sat quietly and listened.
Another kid around his age gives an idea to the red-haired, apparently named Erza about how they can be number one quickly but the others say they should not join "it". This lead to an argument between the child around his age and someone that looks like him about "it". He must be his father or someone related to him.
Natsu's group comes back from the forest and they ask why they are fighting. Aang was shocked; he didn't know when they left.
They vote about who does not want to participate and all the guild members, except Natsu's group and some other group members plus the kid around his age vote for not going. The guild members stared at Aang coaxing him to make his decision. Even though he doesn't want any more attention towards his name, he decides to vote much to the displeasure of some members. Besides he has been craving for adventure and possibly a way out of this world ever since he arrived here, maybe he will find a way home through this tournament.
Natsu then demands to know what "it" is, and the kid whom he found out was named Romeo replies that it is an event made to choose the number one guild in Fiore called the Grand Magic Games. Makarov is reluctant about it, but when Romeo says that there is a reward for the winner, he quickly approves. As the Grand Magic Games are in three months, Natsu says it is enough time for them to train and keep up with this era. The participating team is clearly excited for the Games to start while the others think that it is a bad idea.
What follows is the subsequent beginning of the training of the different participating guild members. Aang didn't hear where they others went to train as it wasn't relevant to him. During the course of the three months, Aang refined his bending abilities, improving his controls over the four elements. He went to a place where he had an abundance of water and earth. He trained on weekdays and rested on the weekends so as not to overtax himself.
When he wasn't training, he talked to his predecessor, still hoping for a way to escape from this world before it's too late in his home world. What's he saying? It's already too late. The Sozin's comet must have come and gone. It's being months since he came here.
The thoughts gave way to fear as he imagine his friends dead due to his stupidity. He could see them slaughtered like animals by the Fire Lord. It was a scary thought and one that plagued his mind through out the whole three months.
Aang and the others arrive back at the Fairy Tail guild after their training, completely exhausted. Natsu is shocked at how Elfman, Mirajane's younger brother has bulked up, leading everyone into a conversation about how they have improved, some of them proving to be extremely useless. Suddenly, Makarov appears and commends them for their hard work and tells them to come inside.
There, he announces the five members who will take part of the Grand Magic Games: Natsu, Gray, Lucy, Wendy and Erza. Lucy and Wendy are shocked that they are selected, whilst Elfman cries over not being chosen.
Juvia, a blue haired water bender or mage cannot think of being separated from Gray - the teen who called him weak - for so long while Wendy asks the master why he would not select Laxus or Gajeel instead, to which he replies that they aren't back yet. Erza comforts Lucy and says that the Master based his decision on teamwork, the female knight vowing to restore the guild's reputation, and everyone yelling their agreement.
Aang wasn't happy too at the master's choice. Perhaps he wasn't chosen because they don't know the kind of magic he wield? Or he was deemed to weak. Whatever the reason, Aang vowed to correct that assumption and prove he was strong.
The guild heads to Crocus, the capital of Fiore, where the Grand Magic Games are being held. Upon arrival, the nearby townspeople began badmouthing the guild. Makarov says that anybody who wants to laugh can laugh and Happy laughs while looking at Jet and Droy, which irks them. Levy, a short blue haired mage took out a glasses and began to skim over the rules after the master gave it to Ezra so she could read it overnight.
She explains that there are three main rules: the guild master can't join; those without the guild emblem can't join, and; rules of the event won't be revealed until the main day. Levy then reads a warning that says that the members must be back at their inn by midnight, leading to different speculations as to why that rule existed, even a guild member going so far as to compare the story to one Cinderella story. Who Cinderella was? He didn't know and he didn't ask them to explain to him who this Cinderella person is as he didn't want to draw anymore attention to himself.
Arriving at 'Honey Bone Inn', the designated awaiting area for the participating guild member. Aang wasn't participating, he just wanted to see the room. He explained that to Ezra to which she accepted, agreeing that there isn't any crime for him to be there. He began pacing round the room, waiting for Natsu and co. to come back.
He watched, freaked out as a creepy looking short man showed up and began complimenting Ezra's 'parfum' to which Ezra angrily punches him before reprimanding him for coming in uninvited. Three more people showed up and began flirting with her until she punches them too and they left. Aang shuddered. Ezra is scary.
They decided to pass time by playing cards, with Ezra teaching Aang how to play the game. The group came back and Ezra began interrogating them asking them where they have been. After they have answered, they quickly realized that one member was missing. Elfman and Lisanna, Elfman and Mirajane's younger sister suddenly come in, bringing some snacks along. Natsu asks them if they are going to watch them this year, and Elfman replies that he really wanted to be in it. Erza asks Lisanna for a favor, but before she can continue, the clock strikes midnight.
Suddenly, a hologram of a person wearing a pumpkin appeared. He called himself Mato. He makes an announcement to the 113 teams participating the Grand Magic Games for the start of an elimination round. All the guilds' teams are shocked that the elimination round will narrow down 113 teams to eight.
Before he explains the rules, the city's inns start rising from the ground and Mato explains that this will be a form of race. Paths form in front of each inn's window as a way of entering and Mato states that there are no restrictions and the first eight teams to reach Domus Flau will enter the Grand Magic Games and they will not be responsible for any lives lost. A huge, spherical Labyrinth then appears behind Mato and he announce the Sky Labyrinth to begin.
They watched in amazement as the Sky Labyrinth was formed in the air and as they were about to leave, Erza says that Wendy is still missing and they cannot leave without her.
Aang hesitantly stands up and tell them that he will step in as a replacement for Wendy at least until she has recovered, much to the shock of the present members.
"Are you sure you want to do this little man." Elfman asked, frowning a little.
He ignored the 'little man' taunt. Well, he knew they would have found out sooner than later. And it is easy to come out now.
"I am an air ben-mage like her." The avatar revealed much to the shock of the group.
After some brief discussion with Gray shouting about how a kid will hold them down, they accepted albeit begrudgingly. They jumped on the path, headed towards the labyrinth. With a twirl of his staff, he takes up in the air, following the team from above much to the amazement of the group.
Well, Aang thought. The adventure begins.
Notes: Results of boredom.
