"Could you tell me about what your dreams mostly consist of?" said my therapist. "Well," I said "I have been having this reoccurring dream lately. There's this…man. I guess that's what you'd call it. He has no face, though. I can never see him clearly, he's always at a distance, yet he's always there in every dream. I know he wears a black suit, and he's a very skinny fellow. I fear him sometimes, but others I just feel numb when he appears." My therapist, Dianne, just sat there nodding. "That will be all for today." She said in her serious, emotionless voice.
As I drove home, I thought more about the man in the suit. What could this mean? I'm surely not insane, right?
But the more I think of this man, the more I fear him. Every dream he seems to get closer and closer. I somehow just know that he is harmful. I've never heard him speak, or even really move for gods sake. I start getting angry with the thin man in my dreams. If he keeps appearing I may have to go to the hospital or something. Am I losing my mind?
I went to bed that night feeling pugnacious. If this guy could appear in every one of my dreams, he could surely face me. Why does he just stand there? That coward! If he appears tonight, maybe I will do something for once.
I woke up to a loud bang. I glanced at the clock on my nightstand. 3:05 A.M. There's an intruder in my house! I can hear rain pouring outside, and I have never seen a sight so dark. I can't see my own hand in front of my face. A creak came from outside my door. I must be overreacting, it's probably just the house. I remember having a dream about the man again. It's all coming back now, he was chasing after me but I couldn't outrun him. The noises came closer to my door, there's no way this is the wind shifting the house. I slid out of bed and put my slippers on. I feel around for the flashlight in my drawer, and sprint to the door. I yank the door open, no one's there. My instincts cannot be wrong, there must be someone here. I have no money, who would want anything of mine? I turned the corner, and there he was. The man in the suit. I felt no sense of fear. My body went numb, and the man took no steps, but he was coming toward me. Run! Run you fool! Yet I couldn't get my legs to move. I'm on the floor now…the man won't leave me alone…
