A sad little oneshot that popped into my head. Major character death. Enjoy.

"Eames, you cannot name our baby after me."

"Why not?"

Bobby Goren sighed, shaking his head. "It's bad enough that he'll be a Goren. He doesn't need my first name on top of that."

"This baby is coming out of me, Goren." Alex stood up, resting her hands on her swollen abdomen. "And if I want to, I'm going to name him after you."

Amused, he smiled. "Whatever you want, Eames."

"You know it. And you love me for it."

"Yes, I do." There was an affectionate warmth in his chocolate eyes. "I love you, Alex."

"I love you, too, Bobby."

She was caught off guard when a large hand settled on her shoulder, and she turned around to see Mike Logan watching her. There was sadness etched into his features. "Hey…"

"Hey, Alex." He drew her into a gentle hug. "Who were you talking to?"

She rested her cheek against his shoulder and closed her eyes, and he understood.

"I'm worried about you, Alex."

"I'm fine."

"No, you're not."

Suddenly she pulled away from him. "I said I'm fine, Logan."

"You just lost your husband." He gently gripped her shoulder. "And now you're talking to him."

A tear slipped down her cheek, and she quickly wiped it away before looking at the area where Bobby had been standing just moments ago. There was no one there.

"Alex, you have to let him go."

She wrapped her arms around her abdomen, reassured by the movements of her child. Bobby's child. "I can't do that, Mike," she whispered. "I can't let him go."

With a sigh, he drew her back against his chest, folding his arms around her. Almost a month ago, he had been the first on the scene of a gruesome car accident. He hadn't known it until he was at the overturned SUV, but the passengers inside were Bobby and Alex. Bobby was already gone, and Alex was sobbing as she begged him to open his eyes. How she had managed not to lose the baby was a miracle. He saw that as the only good thing to come out of that terrible day. Without that baby, he was certain he would have lost Alex, too. He rested his head against hers and closed his eyes.

Leaning heavily against Mike, Alex let a few more tears fall. She knew he was gone. She had held his hand and watched the life leave his eyes. But that didn't stop her from talking to him, from seeing him. He had once told her that nothing, not even death, could separate them.

How right he had been.
