Author's Note: This was inspired after reading Star Wars: Labyrinth of Evil. In this particular part, the Chancellor notices that Senator Amidala is in possession of Jedi Skywalker's droid and calls her on it. However the author never explains how she gets out of such an accusation. This is my take on how our esteemed Senator would deflect any attention to her and Anakin's relationship.

"Why Senator Amidala, I do believe you're blushing."

Padmé didn't dare drop the Chancellor's gaze for fear of leading him on to feelings she wasn't supposed to harbor—but did. She was an esteemed member of the Galactic Senate; he was a renowned Jedi Knight and general in the Grand Army of the Republic. The Jedi and Senate were separate entities, both with a common goal of keeping the peace between thousands of sentient beings and leaders of both preferred to keep them apart as much as possible. Any relationship more than a polite acquaintance was explicitly forbidden as it drew tangling and dangerous alliances between the two factions. So Padmé assumed the role of concerned colleague; friend was too intimate an association. But in reality her connection ran much deeper then even close friendship. In her three years of marriage to Jedi Anakin Skywalker she hadn't slipped up any secret of their forbidden union and she wasn't about to start now.

Before she could respond to the Chancellor's observation, Bail Organa interjected on her behalf.

"Can we get back to the matter at hand?"

Only when Palpatine had turned his attention to the Senator of Alderaan did Padmé allow her stare to find the glaring red carpet at her feet. She mentally kicked herself for losing her composure in front of the delegation, feeling even greater heat rising in her cheeks and brought a trembling hand to the front of her voluminous robes—robes that concealed an even more scandalous tell than the flushing of cheeks. The sound of her name drew Padmé out of her reverie.

"Oh and Senator Amidala, before I forget…" Palpatine's icy blue eyes found her own deep brown once again. "Jedi Skywalker wanted me to say hello for him."

The way he said it made the statement more of a question as if an explanation were needed for the Jedi's apparent interest in the Senator from Naboo. Next to her, Bail shifted uneasily.

"Thank you Chancellor. You can return my greetings and wishes for a safe return," Padmé said in a cool tone, though her heart raced with excitement. A small bump inside her tummy almost drew a genuine smile across her face, but that would have been the confirmation prying eyes were looking for.

The elderly man smiled at her with a knowing look and for a panicked moment she could have sworn he knew about her and Anakin's secret, but the scrutiny passed quickly.

"I know seeing him on the front lines is hard on you Senator. But if all goes well, I hear the Jedi Council will bring Knight Skywalker and Master Kenobi back from Cato Neimoidia. Perhaps you can tell him then."

"No doubt this war has been trying on us all but we can't lose focus of our intentions," Bail concluded. Padmé shot him the briefest of thank-you glances and the delegation resumed its initial discussion without any further talk of Jedi.
