"Hearts Apart"
It was 0430
Elvis stepped out of the shower and reached for a towel. He shook his head, hair flinging water in every direction. Rubbing the wetness from his face with the towel he then wiped himself down and stood in front of the mirror. The steam blurred his image and he swiped at it. After wrapping the towel around his waist he pushed his hair back with a hand. He finished brushing his teeth and began to wipe the sink. As he did so he noticed Georgie's side of the vanity. Her lotions and potions were lined up neatly. In his mind he could see her standing there next to him…..after showering together and playfully drying each other…getting ready for a post-marital date night…He missed her. Terribly. She was already gone two of the four weeks she would be away on a training mission. Shit. This was tough.
Elvis walked into the bedroom. His clothing was waiting for him as he had everything ready to go the night before. As he sat down on the bed to put his socks on he noticed their picture on his night stand. They each had one but a different pose. Elvis stopped and picked up the frame. It contained an image of the two of them in Afghanistan after he had proposed to her. They were face to face in an embrace and Georgie had her hand up toward the camera showing off her ring. Their smiles were contagious. Elvis touched the glass covering the picture with his fingers. He missed her. Terribly. "I love you," he said.
Georgie was sat in the canteen staring at the substance on her plate that was supposed to be breakfast. It did not resemble any breakfast she was accustomed to in recent months. She laughed to herself. She had gotten quite used to her personal chef Elvis. Elvis. Her heart flipped. She missed him. Terribly. Last night when she turned over in her cot she absently reached for him. She wanted to feel his warmth and touch his chest. Instead it was cold and she felt emptiness. She pushed the food around on her plate and took a tentative taste. "Two more weeks," she thought.
He was probably up and about getting ready to go to SAS Training HQ. He seemed to enjoy his new assignment. He was involved in tactical training. That was a great fit for Elvis because he could get involved hands-on with weapons and scenarios, not just classroom work. Georgie thought about the skills she learned from him. The drive to never give up. The virtue of duty. She wished he was sitting here with her saying something cheeky and making her laugh. She missed him. Terribly. "I love you," she said.
