Hermione Granger gave a sigh and stared at the ceiling. Everyone else was asleep and the common room where she had been working was empty. She had just woken up after dozing off, only to discover that she had drooled on her essay. Disgusted, she had relit the fire and started to copy it all down again. As she sat copying it over, she began to think about things she hadn't really thought of before…
Am I losing it? I mean honestly, I'm recopying a five-foot essay over because of a little drool. What would Ron and Harry do? Well, Ron would just hand it in like that. Harry would say '"Oh Hermione, its just a little mistake just leave it." Should I though? I mean what if Professor Binns takes points off for it? They may not care about their grades, but I do. But maybe they are right… Maybe I do spend too much time researching… No way, I have to get good grades. I can't stop studying. What would happen if I failed a class? Oh my gosh!!! I can't believe I just said that! That's ridiculous!! Me fail a class??? No way!!! I will always turn in my homework on time! I always will!
Hermione's eyes wandered across the room until they fell on the picture that was taken the year before. She smiled as the trio waved back at her. She began to think some more…
They can be so naïve sometimes but I don't know what I'd do without them. What would happen if they hated me?? I don't even want to think about that. They've been there for what seems like forever. They wouldn't desert me. Would they?
She knew she should head up to bed soon, so she packed everything neatly into her bag and was about to head upstairs when she realized that she couldn't keep her eyes open any longer. She was so comfortable and warm in her armchair that before she could move, she sank into a heavy dreamless sleep.
"Hermione!, Hermione!"
"Wha?? She opened her eyes and blinked. Ron and Harry stood in front of her.
"Ginny said that you weren't in the dormitory so we figured you were down here. Go get ready, were going to be late for breakfast. Hurry." As Hermione left, Ron turned to Harry. "She must have been up all night! Look, it looks like she was copying her essay over."
'But why?'
"Dunno, let me see. Hmmm, beats me. Maybe she's losing it."
"Ready!" said Hermione cheerfully. Ron looked at her.
"Umm Hermione?"
"Yes?'
"Why on earth would you want to copy a five-foot essay over??"
"Oh, I fell asleep while finishing it and I drooled a little and well, the ink smudged so I had to recopy it."
"Where?"
"Right there," said Hermione pointing. Ron squinted and looked at Harry who shrugged. "Come on, were going to be late Ron!"
As Hermione walked out the portrait hole, Ron muttered "She is losing it.'
