Hanashi and Yakuza Hibari were both very proud parents. When Hanashi gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, their heart swelled. But that all soon changed when Yakuza became an alcoholic. He would always lose his calm composure when he was near his favorite beer, and his wife had to deal with him being temperamental almost every night.
Eventually she couldn't deal with it anymore and threw herself into her work. Luckily, the law firm had many cases for her, and she would always be back around 4 AM. Yakuza flew into deeper rage when she would always come back late. It entered his mind that she was cheating on him, because he wasn't the ideal husband.
Mayumi would lock herself up in her closet when her parents were having those often fights. Every night she would cuddle herself in the dark space and try to fall asleep. But the rising voices would reach up into the thin floors and jolt her awake from her occurring nightmares.
Now, Mayumi wasn't the ugliest girl. She was far from it. Everyday she brushed her hair until it shined. Her long black locks and a triangle bang facing down in a collective matter was her daily hairstyle. People said it made her look more serious than she ever was, but her eyes deceived them. It was soft, caring; however her steel eyes guarded a dark secret. Her looks, charisma, and plain confidence drew people towards her whether they like her or not. Always smiling and caring, people began to trust her. After school, she would be bombed with love letters and such, but always became friends with all the bachelors.
No one knew, even her best friend, of her dilemma at home. She kept it well guarded.
She knew that being affected by this wasn't going to make things better. So, she worked hard to keep her parents from checking on her when they were still in the aftermath of a huge fight. Straight A's were the only thing that remained on her report cards. Recommendations for colleges even though she was in middle school arrived regularly. Scholarships were offered, but she turned them all down.
She hatched an elaborate plan to run away. It would happen when they had the biggest fight of all. Of course, she would need to trigger these things. Recalling back to the 4 most major fights their parents had, she laid them all in plain sight. Cases of beer bottle laid on top of the couch. Smashed family pictures were strategically laid on the floor, and furniture ruined from their most recent fight. And lastly, a briefcase representing the long hours Hanashi put in at work.
It wasn't surprising when she snuck out into the night without being noticed even in the afternoon. The parents were used to her being quiet and going to places where she didn't stick out. It was only then that Hanashi felt a pang of guilt from ignoring their only daughter, did she go upstairs. This was a week later.
Hanashi was speechless as she saw the room empty of their 16 year old girl. She searched throughout the night, looking all over the town. She cried for the 5th time that week. Yakuza of course blamed this all on Hanashi, and she lashed out. It didn't help that both parents were experts in Tae-Kwon-Do and Martial arts
They decided to pretend that everything was okay for one week, and it was then that a baby boy was created.
After 9 months, and debate of abortion, Hanashi and Yakuza decided to have the baby and continue the Hibari legacy. Kyoya was to be his name. A name that struck fear into those who dared to hear the name and the name that many respected.
