A loud cry rang throughout the small house, causing a pair of violet eyes to spring open. Looking at the alarm clock on the bedside table, she saw it was the early hour of 2:35. She groaned as she realized it had only been an hour since she'd fallen to sleep...the second time. As she prepared to get herself up, the bed shifted beside her.
"Don't worry, Rae. I got this one." His voice was deep and rough, as it was every time he woke up. She loved it. Raven let out a deep sigh, muttering a quick 'thanks' that did not show how truly appreciative she was of him giving her an opportunity to catch up on sleep.
She heard his tired footsteps drag down the hall, and a sudden bang, which she only could assume was some part of his body acquainting itself with the small table they kept against the wall in the hallway. Noting the silence, she began to drift back into the deep realm of sleep.
That was when she heard it.
It was so faint, and so low, she couldn't quite make out the words. But she was sure someone was...singing?
Slowly, tiredly, Raven lifted herself from their bed and began making her way down the hall. Her footsteps light, as she didn't want to interrupt the song. As she came closer to the nursery, the words became more clear.
"...I will be here don't you cry. For one so small, you seem so strong.." Raven was shocked. Sitting in the rocking chair, slowly rolling it back and forth, looking far beyond what could be described as tired, was Garfield. He was holding their daughter close to his chest. She hadn't ever heard him sing something like this before. "...my arms will hold you, keep you safe and warm. This bond between us can't be broken." The music he usually listened to, as he described 'Always has the base pumpin', mama!' To see him so...out of state, singing softly to their daughter, made her heart swell. She leaned against the doorway, a broad, genuine smile gracing her lips.
"I will be here, don't you cry. 'Cuz you'll be in my heart. Yes you'll be in my heart. From this day on, now and forever more..." Raven closed her eyes, listening to his words, allowing herself to become lost in his voice. Hearing the creak o the old chair, she opened them again, to see him placing the now sleeping infant down in her crib. "You'll be here in my heart, always." Garfield leaned down, kissing his daughter on her forehead.
He smiled to himself, looking down at her. Tired as he was, he couldn't help but stay by the side of the crib, staring at his beautiful baby girl. He sighed in contentment. Raven made her way over to him, wrapping an arm around his waist. He showed no surprise. He'd picked up on her scent the moment she came to the room. She planted a soft kiss on his shoulder.
"I didn't know you could sing like that" she whispered to him. He just shrugged. Snaking his arm around her waist, the two walked out of the room. "It's a little...out of your usual tastes, isn't it?" she asked as they made their way to the bedroom. He let out a soft whisper of a laugh, climbing in to bed, as she did the same. The two curled up to each other, bodies molding together to a near perfect fit. He leaned forward, kissing her softly, and responded in a small, tired voice.
"What can I say? I'm a sucker for Phil Collins."
I don't own Teen Titans, or You'll be in my Heart. Although it would be pretty sweet to..
