Cogito ergo sum

I think, therefore I am.

Ten years ago the world ended in a blaze of war, hated, anger, and disease. It was a war between soldiers and their creators.

The partials warriors, humans engineered by ParaGen to fight in a war that was all about getting more, more, more. After the isolation war, these brave soldiers came back to a country that thought they were less, only partially real people.

Most fought back.

And just as the Partials were about to win, a disease decimated 99.9% of the human population.

But this story doesn't start with the hate, it starts with love.

18 Years Ago in Athens, Georgia

Sometimes Allen really wished it wasn't so hard to get drunk, he breathed out his frustration and despair. His buddy, Dayton, from the II division sent Quit it over the data link.

Resigned.

Allen shook his head and walked away from Dayton and the blonde human bimbo he was trying to get with. No use in us both being unhappy. Allen's new residence was taken in the back corner of the bar, taking up a look out. Just far enough from Dayton to not link up, but close enough to jump in if people found out a partial was talking with a human.

Anger. Helpless. Pissed.

We won the war for them, Allen thought angrily, but they don't give a damn about us. His face betrayed nothing of the rage he felt, not because he tried to hide it, but because the data link was how he let it out.

Attack. Wait. Focus.

Then movement in the corner of his eye distracted him. A pretty brunette started to walk over to his table. She had long light brown hair and rich brown eye, where Allen had short blond hair with green eyes. The woman was petite and delicate, where Allen was all hard packed muscle. She was pale, he had a rich tan, and she was his complete opposite.

Interested.

And Allen was intrigued, Dayton picked up his buddies interest over the link. He looked over and thought maybe now he won't be such a downer.

Smile?

The woman stopped next to him and said, "You're very obvious you know."

Confusion.

She got closer to his ear and whispered, "Hi I'm Dakota, and you're a partial."

We've be discover!

But Dayton had moved out of range, and Dakota just laughed. "Don't worry, I just want to get to know you." She smiled.

Beautiful.

She held out her hand, "But first, what's your name?"

Pride.

Dakota was as beautiful as ever, Allen thought as his wife (in every sense but the legal) was covered in sweat. He had to sneak away from the compound to be here, the riots were getting worse and if anyone found out about their relationship….

Worried. Happiness. Scared. Hopeful.

Dakota just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. She had her mother's hair and her father's bright green eyes. Dakota was just vibrant in her tiny apartment holding her little one. They couldn't risk a hospital, but mother and daughter were healthy.

Beautiful.

Dakota held out their daughter, and Allen linked with the little one. The baby cooed as her daddy held her. "What should we name her?"

Happiness.

"Katherine."
