note: Chiropterra is the Order level for bats naming convention, so mucus, Chiropterra...
Ginny sighed deeply. She was going into her second year at Hogwarts, and wasn't sure what to do with herself. She hadn't made many friends last year... or any at all really. She had been too busy being possessed to make friends, and now she was behind the curve. Everyone else had paired up, grouped up, and she was the outsider looking in. She kissed her mother goodbye and got on the train, not bothering to see where Harry, Hermione and her brother went; she knew she wouldn't be too welcome there, not with everything that had happened. So she searched the train for someplace she might fit in.
"No! Please! Give it back!" a small voice cried out. Ginny looked up through a compartment window to see a rather small first year jumping for his wand, being held up by none other than Draco Malfoy, taunting the boy while Crabbe and Goyle grunted their laughter.
"We really ought to do something, don't you think?"
Ginny jumped at the sound and glanced to her side, startled. A wide eyed girl with long blonde hair was by her side looking through the window.
"Oh! I...yeah...yes. We should help." Ginny nodded to the girl resolutely and she slid open the compartment door.
"Excuse me, you should give that boy his wand back." the blonde said airily as she strode forward. She sounded as if she were commenting on the weather. Ginny quickly entered behind her and pulled her wand out, ready to use it if she had to.
"Or what?" Draco laughed at the girl.
"Or gilping plimpies will grow out your ears. I know how to do that, you know." she said causally.
"This girl is going to get herself hurt..." thought Ginny. Draco stared the girl down with a sneer, while his cronies cracked their knuckles menacingly. She stared back calmly with a smile on her face, and the boy between them glanced from one to the other, not sure what to do.
"Give his wand Malfoy!" Ginny said, regaining her voice and taking a step closer, trying to look more determined than she felt. Malfoy snicker at her and raised his wand opening his mouth to cast, but Ginny was too fast for him, already on strung out nerves from standing up to the schools biggest bully. She shouted the first spell that came to her mind, thrusting her wand at Malfoy.
"MUCHIROPTERRA !"
Malfoy stood with a stunned look on his face as he was pushed back by the force of her spell, and when the first bat shaped booger started forcing its way out of his nose, he screamed loudly, dropping the boy's wand, yelling for Crabbe and Goyle to help. Ginny was just as surprised as Malfoy by what she was capable of. The boy rushed forward and grabbed his wand, leaving as quickly as he could.
"Well, I suppose that went well. Your bat bogey hex is rather impressive. I'm Luna by the way. Luna Lovegood." Luna held her out hand to Ginny, completely ignoring Malfoy's screams.
"Ginny Weasley... do you mind if we sit together? I uh, don't have many friends." Ginny smiled and shyly took her hand.
"Me neither! I can tell we'll be the best of friends already!" Luna said brightly, clasping Ginny's hand. She led Ginny out of Malfoy's compartment and down the train corridor in search of an empty compartment, talking all the while. Ginny felt a smile spread on her face, happy to let her new friend lead the way.
