The Cheshire Cat sat up upon his tree branch. How lonely it was to be one of a kind, the only one, the lonely one. He dangled his human legs over the tree branch and sighed as his tail flicked back and forth. Most cats looked like cats all cat unlike him. He had cat ears, tail, and cat eye true but the rest of him was human making him lonely. As he looked out at the road he noticed a girl coming down the road in a light blue dress and apron blonde hair blowing slightly in the wind. He felt a wide smile only a Cheshire could have crawl across his face. There was no reason he could think of why he was delighted to see her but he did know that he was lit up with joy at her sight.
"Oh, I am dreadfully lost." She huffed as she sat down to pout.
"Now's my chance" The one and only Cheshire Cat thought excited to help. He appeared in front of her floating in the air.
"Ah!" She said jumping up. "Um who are you?" She stuttered nervous.
" I am Cheshire." He smiled spinning his entire head upside down and back around again. "And you?"
"I am Alice." She smiled kindly. Cheshire smiled wider, Alice, what a beautiful name it was to his ears.
"Well Alice where do you want to go?"
"Oh I don't care really."
"Then you can go either way" Cheshire said stalling he really didn't want Alice to leave.
"So long as I get some where." Alice explained.
"Oh your sure to get somewhere as long as you walk far enough." Cheshire floated onto his back with his eyes closed. He opened his eyes again as he said "That way lead to the Mad Hatter." He pointed in one direction. "And that way leads to the March Hare." He pointed in the opposite direction.
"But I don't want to be among Mad people!" Alice exclaimed.
"Oh that can't be helped. We're all mad here. I'm mad, you're mad." He laughed.
"How do you know that I am mad?" Alice smiled a slightly flirty smile.
"If you weren't mad you wouldn't be here, sweetie." He said putting his finger under her chin to hear her giggle, which she did. Then in the distance there was a piercing screech.
"Off with their heads! Off with their heads!"
"The Queen!" Cheshire and Alice gasped.
"Where is Alice? Where is she? Off with her head!" The Queen's voice yelled again getting closer and closer.
"Run! Alice! Run to the Hatter's and don't look back!" Cheshire yelled spinning her towards the path and shoving her down it.
"But I don't want to leave you!" Alice objected.
"I don't care! Go! I'm saving your life!" He screamed shoving her harder down the path. The tears started to well up in Alice's eyes but she nodded and ran down the path.
"I didn't want you to leave." He whispered to himself. Cheshire floated there, put on a fake smile and waited for the Queen.
"Alice, a young girl, which way did she go?" The Queen huffed.
"That way." Cheshire pointed in the opposite direction to which he had sent Alice and smiled extra wide.
"Thank you good citizen." A card smiled.
"I just hope that she will be alright and that we may meet again." Cheshire sighed to himself letting his smile fade.
