1. Drunk!
Mary came back from lunch at 2:30PM, one day. "Hiya, Mur," she said, and she flopped into her chair.
"Mare, you were gone for 1 ½ hours!"
"Wuz it that long?" She looked at her watch. "My eyesite's a little foggy, right now. Iz Mrlou cross at me?"
"He's a little worried-Mr. Lou?"
She giggled. "I mean Mr. Grant!"
"How much did you have to drink?"
"I'm not sure. I lost count after my 4th screwdriver."
"Yeah, and I think they screwed you up!"
She giggled again. "Tha's good Mur!" She slipped her shoes off and propped her feet on the desk. "I think I'll relax, a little while." She instantly fell asleep.
Lou came out, soon afterwards. "Oh, good, Mary's back."
"In body, but not in spirit, Lou!"
He looked at her. "She's asleep!"
"She had a bit to drink, at lunch."
"Mary?"
I know, I'm shocked, too!"
Lou tried to rouse her by shaking her, but she didn't wake up. Then he ticked her feet roughly; this woke her!
"Oh, hi, Mrlou!"
"How are you feeling, Mary?"
"Oh, I feel wonderful!. . . I don't feel so good!"
She got up and dashed out of the room, still barefooted! A few minutes later, she came back in. Her face looked decidedly green! She collapsed in her chair.
"I got a little sick! I'm sorry!"
"Go back to sleep, for a while, Mary. When you wake up again, I'd like to see you, for a bit."
"OK, Mr. Grant."
She put her feet back up and went back to sleep.
2. Sober!
1 ½ hours later, Mary woke up, again.
"Hi, sleepyhead!," said Murray.
"Hi, Mur." She rubbed her hung-over head. "I feel like hell!"
"Lou wants to see you. Don't worry, I think he'll be understanding."
"She sighed. "Let's get this over with!" She got up.
"You're forgetting your shoes, Mare!"
She look at her feet. "Oops!" She quickly put them on. Then she went into Lou's office.
"Hi, Mr. Grant."
"How do you feel, Mary?"
"Lousy! Mr. Grant, I'm SO sorry! Rhoda and I drank way more than either of us intended to."
"It's OK, Mary. In my day, I used to get drunk during work once a week! But don't make a habit of it; I lost one of my jobs once, because of that!"
"I promise this is the last time!"
"Good. Are you up to working the rest of the day?"
"Yes, I think so."
"Well, here, I guess you'll need these."
He gave her an aspirin bottle.
"Thanks, Mr. Grant!"
