"She was utterly dependent on him," Scorpius said, leaning back in his chair, a contemplating look in his emerald green eyes.
"After the Department of Mysteries and Sirius' death, her mind was broken and I don't mean by grief, the Dark Lord utterly shattered her mind."
He paused, "I think he was sending a message to Dumbledore, when he broke Mum, that he didn't need to kill to destroy."
"But it also could have been revenge," Scorpius said, tapping his lip thoughtfully, "putting her through the torment he had gone through for years."
"If that was the case, he succeeded, Mum was worse than the Longbottoms."
He took a deep breath, "It was Severus put her back together; rebuilding her mind from the ashes. Bringing her back to sanity, although there were times I think she wished he hadn't."
He sat lost in thought, a pensive look on his handsome face. His eyes were shadowed.
A delicate cough from the cloaked figure jolted Scorpius from his thoughts.
He smiled a maniacal grin at the person opposite.
"Is it any wonder that Mum fell so deeply in love with him?"
There was an uncomfortable shifting from the figure, but Scorpius continued on.
"There's was a twisted love from the beginning, but what can you expect from such damaged people. Mum had been neglected all her life, and I know Severus was abused by his father. They had no idea how to form healthy bonds."
Scorpius once again had a contemplating look in his eye.
There was a shifting and a soft murmur from the hooded figure.
"I don't know if Severus' love for my Grandmother was a problem for my Mum. I'm sure it was for Severus' but she had been dead for years, and I think Severus wanted to snatch whatever happiness he could."
There was a soft question.
"Your right, the entire Order hated what was going on between them but what could they do? They needed my Mum to function, as a symbol if not a warrior.
"They tried taking her away from him once, but she went violently mad, and killed an Order member. After that, they never said a word no matter how inappropriate it was for a student to live with her teacher."
Scorpios traced his lip absently, "It didn't matter to Mum what anyone thought because to her Severus was more than just a teacher, he was her everything, her mentor, best friend, guardian, and lover. He was the center of her universe, and that terrified him."
"For Severus to be on the receiving end of that sort of love was so strange to him; he was a man so used to giving."
"So it shouldn't have come as a surprise to Dumbledore when he fell in love with her back."
Scorpius shifted and brushed his pale hair back, "Don't misunderstand Severus is a good man, and he didn't want to fall in love with her, I mean she was his student and only fifteen. But I think he was a lonely man."
"Severus had never been the kind to easily inspire love, so when a beautiful girl like my Mother needed him, and got to know him and didn't shy away from him, well, I dare any man to resist."
Scorpius let out a gentle sigh, sinking deeper into the chair.
"I think in the end Severus was just happy to have someone care about him."
