Sleep? What's That?
Disclaimer: I don't own the names...They belong to history. I don't own the song "Who Needs Sleep?" The Barenaked Ladies do...
*Now why lay me down not to sleep*
*I just get tangled in the sheets*
Henry Tingle Wilde laid back, he hoped to get some sleep tonight.
*I swim in sweat three inches deep*
*Just lay back and claim defeat*
'Fat chance,' he thought. He just had a weird feeling about the Titanic. What was it though? He'd never felt this way about other ships.
*Chapter read and lesson learned*
*I turned the lights off while she burned*
'Was it insomnia?' Nah...He would've noticed it before.
"To much coffee, Chief?" Will had asked him.
"No Will...I've only had tea."
"Hm...It could be anything then."
*So while she's three hundred degrees*
*I throw the sheets off and I freeze*
He rolled over again. 'Sleep...Sleep,' he told himself.
*Lids down, I count sheep, I count heartbeats*
'I'm going insane...has to be the reason.' He shook his head. 'I'm not losing sanity...I hope.'
*The only thing that counts is that I won't sleep*
*I count down, I look around*
*Who needs sleep?*
*Well you're never gonna get it*
He got up. "I need to talk to someone," he said. 'Will! He'll listen!'
Henry knocked on Will's door.
"Time to get up already?" The drowsy first officer asked.
*Who needs sleep?*
*Tell me what's that for*
*Who needs sleep?*
*Be happy with what you're getting*
*There's a guy who's been awake since the Second World War*
"No...Will, I need to talk to you."
"Oh...Sure, Henry, hold on."
*My hands are locked up tight in fists*
*My mind is racing, filled with lists of things to do and things I've done*
*Another sleepless night's begun*
William McMaster Murdoch turned his light on and glanced at his watch...Sure was late. What could Henry want to talk about? It didn't really matter...
*Lids down, I count sheep, I count heartbeats*
*They only thing that counts is that I won't sleep*
*I count down, I look around*
Will opened the door, rubbed his eyes and yawned. "Come in Henry. Sit down."
"Thanks."
"So...What d'you wanna talk about?"
*Who needs sleep?*
*Well you're never gonna get it*
*Who needs sleep?*
*Tell me what's that for?*
*Who needs sleep?*
*Be happy with what you're getting*
*There's a guy who's been awake since the Second World War*
"Well, Will...I can't seem to sleep," Henry admitted.
"Insomnia?"
"Nope. It's a weird feeling I have everytime I lay down."
"Weird."
"Tell me about it."
"Are you worried about the ship sinking?"
"...Yeah...How did you know?"
"Ada had that same feeling. Don't worry about it though. The ship's safe," Will smiled.
"Thanks Will."
"Of course...Sleep well."
*There's so much joy in life, so many pleasures all around*
*But the pleasure of insomnia is one I've never found*
Henry Tingle Wilde walked back into his room and laid down. Within minutes he was asleep. Sleep at last!
*With all life has to offer, there's so much to be enjoyed*
*But the pleasures of insomnia is one I can't avoid*
