The ground, wet and muddy from the day's poor weather, shook as though the end of the world was nigh. In fact, it was. This world, at least, was under siege from the Zerg swarm. Though the second Overmind was defeated, It lived once more. Because as we all know, if we do not fix our mistakes, history is bound to repeat itself. After the Allied defeat at the hands of Kerrigan, it seemed that no one could stand before the might of the Zerg. Countless worlds fell; The Protoss colonized a planet not far from the earth so that, when the time came, they could stand together against the Zerg. Jim Raynor and Zeratul were appointed supreme commanders of their respective races. But as wonderful as this alliance was, it was not necessary. The mysterious figure known as Duran had completed his Hybrid experiment conducted on a distant world. These half Protoss, half Zerg killing machines were now headed for an assault on Char. Kerrigan had no idea how to defend against them and as such she was defeated and the Zerg colonies were destroyed. One however survived, this was not an accident, however, Duran had studied the way the Overmind had controlled the Zerg and he needed that for his own swarm. By an amazing feat he was able to create his own Overmind that he intended to use to command his armies. What he did not count on was the Overminds inherent psychic abilities. Once born, the Overmind quickly took hold of Duran's brain, extracted all of the information, and killed him. Because the Hybrids were half Zerg, the Overmind had control over them. It incorporated their DNA into the next swarm, created from the remaining colony. Now A hundred years after Jim Raynor's funeral the Swarm is once again en route to earth, and only the combined forces of the Humans and the Protoss can stop them. It comes down to the one last battle between the Allied forces and the swarm.
