"No, Roxas, no

"No, Roxas, no. You're not going back to what you used to be. You're going back to what he used to be. And that's not right." Roxas looked away, no longer able to look at his redheaded partner.

"Roxas, you have a heart. Don't throw that all away! You have so much more than any of us could ever hope for, and you just want to go and disappear?" His voice was pleading, laced with the things he can't say, but Roxas understands them anyway.

"You can't do this, Roxas! You can't! It's just… You're…" He trailed off, choking on his last words. Roxas capped his own tears, refusing to let them fall. It was too late to turn back now, he had to believe that.

"Maybe…" He started, gingerly. "Maybe I have to do this because I have a heart, Axel." He barely managed to get out the other's name. Why did it physically hurt him to say it? "I can't let this go on. It's not right, my existence. Sora… He only has one half of a heart, as long as I'm here. And me… I only have one half of a heart, too. If that." As he said it, Roxas wondered if he believed it.

"More than any of the rest of us are ever going to get." Muttered the redhead. He wasn't bitter, but he was just… so confused. "Just… take some more time to think this over. Don't be rash."

"You think I haven't thought about this!? You think I haven't stayed up all night wondering what was going to happen to me after the merge? You think I'm just throwing in the towel? Taking the easiest way out? Is that what you think!?" They were more questions than outrage. He really needed to know. He didn't have the answers anymore.

"No, Roxas, that's not what I think. I don't know what I think. I just know that giving up, giving into Sora isn't the only answer. Can't you… can't you both exist?" Even before he said it, he knew the answer.

"No. Like you said, it's not right. I have to go back. He's waiting." He sounded so resigned. So faraway.

"Mata ne, Axel."

So this is goodbye.

"Mata ne, aibou."
