"I may die tomorrow."

It's silent for a long moment, Mello staring down the baffled redhead. His lover is shocked, maybe even terrified. Mello wishes he could make it better, but knows he can't.

Matt opens his mouth to speak, and Mello is expecting 'Why?' or even 'What's going on' but instead gets "Then I will too. Put me on the case."

It takes the ex-Mafia boss stall momentarily, startled at the other's persistent gaze and tone. "I already have all the jobs covered." He immediatly responds, even though he doesn't. He can't send Matt to his death.

"Mels," the other man's hands are large and warm on his shoulders as the other walks him back and effortlessly settles in his lap once the blonde is forced down on their old, ragged couch. "I'm going. If you die tomorrow, I'll die tomorrow. If you live tomorrow, I'll live. There's a job left, I know it. Put me on it."

Mello blanches, internally panicking because the only job is just as dangerous, if not more so, than Mello's.

Pale, slender hands come to rest on the gamer's hips, staring at the redhead fairly straddling him, knees on either side of his leather clad hips, in shock.

"It's really dangerous, Matty."

"So is your job." It's a challenge, and the truth all in one sentence.

"I couldn't live with myself if you died. Knowing the pro-Kira movement, you're death would be announced immediatly... I would know."

"Then do like you do when we fight; apologise and carry on."

Mello doesn't want to say yes, doesn't want to sign his best friend's, his boyfriend's, death warrant, but he's never been able to tell Matt no, like ever.

"Okay."

"I'm sorry, I never meant for you to die, Matt." He knew he'd be seeing his love in the afterlife very, very soon.

And he was right; the instant his heart stopped, Matt's there. No, Mail's there, because in death there's no Kira or other idiots that make them need aliases, and they're Mihael and Mail instead of Mello and Matt. He's smiling and holding out his arms, gleaming like a misplaced angel, Mihael falls into them and feels like he's come home.

Review! I have Part II and III already written, though Part II is short, but I'll post it soon.
