Morgan threw himself into the chair at his desk and looked at the stacks of paper for a moment before banging a fist on the hard wood. No one noticed in the hustle of the anthrax threat. As people streamed around him he put his head in his hands and groaned. The kid was laying practically on his death bed and it was his fault. Because he had not been paying attention. Because he had been careless. He wanted to hit something…. Again…. Hard.
"sucks doesn't it." a female voice wrapped around him. He raised his head to see JJ perched on the corner of his desk.
"what does?"
"It's our job to protect the kid. If we had been a little quicker, more alert, not split up….. He wouldn't be in the hospital." he flashed back to a distraught JJ sitting by Reid's bedside until he woke and holding his hand in hers. Her guilt and her pain for her mistakes.
"He might die." Morgan said angry.
"He did die." JJ said. "And I had to watch it. You have to realize that he is a full fledged FBI agent as well. He signed up for this knowing what he was getting into." she said. "Yes it should have been played differently but Morgan, he chose to go into that room just like he chose to spilt up."
She understood what he was feeling just like she knew and understood that he would be there for Reid as soon as the case was over and until the kid woke up.
Morgan swiped the Jello from his plate when no one was looking. He had been there for a couple hours. A coupe hours since they had caught the man responsible. And the kid still looked dead to the world. Morgan flipped through he magazine and ate the Jello slowly. Another hour passed. Morgan finished the first Jello and Dr. Kimura silently handed him another one as she checked Reid over.
"I didn't give him any narcotics so he should be coming out soon." she said quietly. "the cure worked. He is getting stronger every time we check on him. Call me when he wakes we have a couple questions to ask."
"K doc." Morgan said opening the Jello and opening the magazine he had perched on the end of Reid's bed. Finally he noticed the first couple twitches that announced his teammates awakening. He watched Reid struggle to keep his eyes open and sit up. His face grimaced as he moved.
"Are you eating Jello."
"welcome back kid. Hey doc looks who's joined us." Morgan called out.
"I want Jello." Reid stated trying to sit up. The doctor asked questions checked vitals and adjusted the flow of the IV.
"Well call me if you need anything." she said with a smile to Reid before turning with a stern glare to Morgan. "You can stay but he needs to rest."
Morgan nodded.
"Can I have some Jello?" Reid asked plaintively.
"Of course." Kimura pulled one out and handed it to Morgan. "but after you eat it I want you to try to get more rest."
"thanks."
She left shutting the glass door quietly behind her.
"Now what were you thinking going into the mad scientists lab alone without checking things out first." Morgan demanded opening the Jello and sticking a spoon into it. He waited while Reid tried to push himself into a sitting position. Morgan sighed and carefully gave him a hand. Once he was positioned Morgan gave him the Jello. Reid only made it a couple bites in before he was to tired out. He shoved it away and settled back into the pillows.
"night." he muttered before drifting off.
