Well I am back. I had an interview for to start my nursing degree and I got in! So I rewarded myself with some spare time to do a bit of writing. I've decided I am going to try a long multichapter that I will keep up for as long as possible. I don't normally use OCs but I am this time as I want Cal to have a love interest. This chapter is basically setting the story up so it's not too interesting and has a lot of line breaks in it but I hope it makes sense and doesn't feel too rushed. Let me know what you guys think! It was another one of those nights. Cal had been out drinking and pulled a random girl and Ethan was being kept awake by their goings ons in the next room. It was times like this he hated having to live with his brother, especially since he was on an early shift the next day and had to be up in a few hours. Thinking about it, so did Cal.
The next morning came and Ethan dragged his sleep deprived body from his bed and into the bathroom. He showered in cold water in an attempt to wake his body up, it certainly did the trick as the ice-cold water splashed over his head and down his body making him hold his breath before he jumped out and wrapped a towel around himself in an attempt to warm himself up. Once dressed and the bathroom was once again tidy Ethan walked into the corridor, he jumped as he walked straight into someone.
"Oh sorry." Ethan apologised quickly. It was becoming a habit bumping into Cal's one night stands on the landing.
"No worries. You must be Ethan." The tall thin blonde smiled. "I'm Harriet. Cal's told me a lot about you."
"Oh dear." Ethan laughed awkwardly. He looked at her and couldn't help but notice that she was wearing one of Cal's old T-shirts and a pair of shorts, normally in this situation he found himself confronted by a women in nothing but her bra and knickers he raced past him straight to the bathroom. Cal had actually pulled a respectable young lady, from what Ethan could work out so far anyway.
"No, all good I can assure you." She smiled. "He told you used to be involved with a bit of research?"
"Well I was yes while I caring for our Mum, meant I could work from her bedside." He nodded.
"I've just came out of research, looking for more hands on work." She told him.
"I must say the hands on aspect of being a doctor appeals to me more." Ethan agreed with her.
"Anyway, I best go shower." She smiled. "Nice to meet you Ethan." She added before heading off into the bathroom.
Ethan nodded as she walked past him to the bathroom. He sighed slightly as he checked the time. 30 minutes till he started shift, and he hadn't even left the house yet. He went to Cal's room and knocked before peering around the door.
"You wanting a lift to work? We're going to be late…" Ethan spoke taking the mess of his brother's room.
"Yes, I will be five minutes tops." Cal told him holding his hand up indication the five minutes.
Ethan nodded and headed downstairs and sat on the sofa. About 10 minutes later, longer than promised by Cal, his brother and Harriet appeared.
"Ready?" Cal smiled to Ethan as he had his arm around Harriet.
"I've been ready all morning." Ethan spoke and picked up his keys before heading to the door.
"I said Harriet here could have a lift in with us, she has a meeting with Guy Self and Connie later." Cal smiled to his brother who just nodded in response.
"Thank you Ethan." Harriet spoke sweetly.
"It's fine." Ethan smiled to her as he got into the car.
The three of them drove to the hospital. Harriet rushed off to her meeting but not before giving Cal a goodbye kiss, leaving the brothers to head into the ED together.
"Well, what do you think?" Cal smiled at Ethan.
"She's nice, you planning on just using her or?" Ethan looked at his brother sceptically.
"Well it was just meant to be a one night thing but, I think I might actually like her. I was thinking of taking her out properly tonight. See how it goes." Cal told him.
"Careful Cal, almost sounds promising." Ethan smirked.
Cal laughed and punched his arm playfully before getting to work.
The shift was over quickly, it had been a good shift all round. Ethan stood outside the ED entrance waiting for his brother to come out. He was waiting for a good ten minutes before Cal finally came out with Harriet by his side
"Is it alright if Harriet gets a lift back? She only lives a few streets from us." Cal smiled.
"Of course." Ethan nodded as he headed to the car. "How did the meeting with Guy and Connie go then?"
"It was good yeah." Harriet smiled. "They want me to start down in the ED in the next few days."
"That's great. Could do with an extra bit of a woman's touch in that place." Cal laughed.
Harriet looked at him and smirked as they all climbed into the car and set off home.
"So where is this posh restaurant then?" She asked Cal from the back seat.
"It's a surprise." He laughed slightly.
"Could be McDonalds so don't get your hopes up, Cal's idea of posh doesn't extend much further than burger and chips in a paper bag." Ethan chuckled.
"Oi, it does." Cal shook his head laughing. "It is a really nice place actually. One of those with candles and too many knives and forks to know what to do with."
"Sounds promising." Harriet smiled to herself she was quite excited to have a proper date.
Cal and Harriet went out on their date leaving Ethan home alone. He cooked himself something to eat and settled in front of the TV for the evening. Come midnight he decided to go up to bed, he'd know when Cal and Harriet got back because they would no doubt be drunk and making a lot of noise.
Morning came and Ethan woke to the smell of breakfast being cooked, he smiled to himself assuming that last night had been serious since he wasn't awoken by the pair during the night and Cal was clearly in a good mood if he was cooking.
"Morning." Cal beamed as Ethan walked into the kitchen.
"Um... Morning. Good night?" He asked as he sat down at the table only for a fired breakfast to be put straight in front of him. "Thanks."
"Yeah, brilliant. We have just clicked. I actually think she is a keeper." Cal told him excitedly.
"Really?" Ethan laughed a little.
"I'm serious. I've never felt like this before. I love her Ethan…" Cal told him.
"Well it will be interesting to see how it goes." Ethan smiled back at him as he ate his breakfast. He found it hard to believe his brother would grow up and fall for someone so quickly considering how afraid of commitment he was.
