Here it was and it was perfect.

A smile began to spread across his face as he gazed down at the battered body of Light Yagami, better known as Kira.

Light was a fool, he scoffed, nothing more than an arrogant child who could not see his place in the games of greater men.

He had played them all from the start and now at last it had come to fruition.

It had begun on a day many years ago now when a little black notebook had fallen from the sky. But had it fallen? Oh no, it had been dropped. And Light Yagami had indeed been correct; he was chosen for the job.

He had met Light years before he had found the notebook, watched him grow, eventually realizing that he was just the person to carry out his master plan. And it had been easy. And he had won.

Now they all thought that Kira was at last vanquished, or they would until they all died mysteriously the next day. He had written their names the first second some one had let him have a moment with the recovered notebook. They were all completely under his spell.

Of course there had been humiliations, there had been dangers, there had been boredom but he was certain now that it had been worth it. His determination had paid off and now he would finally take his rightful place as God of the New World. As Kira.

Wouldn't they regret it all if they knew? But then again, they never would.

He suppressed the laughter and joy bubbling inside of him. He was the perfect actor of course, he had needed to be. But he could not slip now. His self-control must not ruin this delicious victory.

Light had never seen it coming. Never thought that someone else's plans could be more complex than his own. Never thought that someone had been there all along, quietly putting the events into place.

L had never seen it coming. The supposed greatest detective in the world had never even suspected him. The supposed greatest detective was no match for him.

The task force, the SPK, Near, and Mello; they had been just as blind. They had a narrow vision of the world and thought that they could see all the puzzle pieces fitting into place. They didn't question the coincidence, a soon to be fatal mistake.

My apologies Light, this is just a necessary step, he said to himself. You had to be eliminated; it's nothing personal, he stared at the bedraggled fallen God.

He forced a tear from his eye, letting it linger on his cheek just long enough for the others to see him wipe it away. A perfect mourner.

The whole ordeal was over, or was it? His plans were just beginning. He had a world to rule.

He turned from the group gathered around the body and slunk out of the warehouse. The sun was setting over the city, a festering infected red. It sparkled in his eyes as he smiled quietly in his victory.

"Exactly as planned." Touta Matsuda murmured as the shinigami behind him began to cackle.
