This unconventional unit is built on a foundation of criminal activity, violence and secretes. They also have forgiveness, understanding and most importantly love.

It is no less of a family.

The man has laid everything bare, there are no more secretes. The roles have reversed and not for the first time, it is the 22 year old who has to be the stronger one.

They will not dwell on the horrendousness of past, they will grow and move past it together. The homophobic, psychotic thug and the scrawny ex-scally father of two will finally have their happy ever after.

The blue-eyed, raven-haired man has been released from prison. He has grown a beard and wears casual clothes. He harbours feelings of betrayal and being let down by the boy that should have known him better.

The man has built up his walls, higher than they have ever been before. He cuts out the beautiful Mancunian boy, is indifferent and uninterested.

It has been ten months. Ten months of bitter kisses, flaming arguments, passionate nights and blue bruises. It takes ten moths for the older man to be brave enough to utter those three words.

It is their first encounter, the boy is cocky and demands a job, earning himself a punch from the club manager. While the manager does not take being blackmailed well he begrudgingly employs the smug boy.

The boy opens a small deli and starts a relationship with a quirky American. He is finished making up reasons to give the Irishman just one more chance. It makes no sense to put your heart in hands that tremble, to make someone the centre of your universe when he cannot even accept you in public.

He only wishes that he were spiteful enough to not care about him anymore, to mean it when he says 'I hate you'.

Loving this man leaves him black and blue, bruises on his chin, bloody lips and broken ribs. He has a way of shrinking the strength and the courage in him.

The boy is stronger than his appearance would suggest, he is a fighter and will not stay down. He is an expert at putting himself back together, just for the stitches of bravery that hold him together to be unravelled, again.

The Irishman is no longer here, but the ripples of his existence can still be seen in the boy. You can see the outline of his name etched onto the boy's heart, his fingerprints are all over his soul and the memory of his face haunts him everywhere he goes.
