Opening the door to their apartment, Lovino stepped into the doorway and let out an exhausted sigh. His messenger bag felt heavy on his shoulder and almost constricting against his chest. Another day passed and there he was, tired and making his way to their bedroom in hope that Isabella didn't noticed his arrival. He wanted to wash up and maybe get rid of that tired look in his eyes before greeting her. Lovino knew how much it worried her when he was in that state and worrying her was the least he wanted to do at the moment.
Dropping the bag on the table, he flopped faced down onto the bed and let out a low groan. He wanted to lay there in the comfort of their warm bed forever and never get up for another goddamn day for school. A few minutes passed as he laid their motionless before the bedroom door opened and the sound of the bed creaking to someone's weight could be heard. Cursing at himself inside his head for failing horribly at keeping quiet, he turned his head to look up at her.
Isabella placed her hand on his forehead, brushing aside the dark auburn bangs to reveal the face of her tired lover. His hazel eyes looked back at her and she could almost hear the apology ready to escape his mouth when she shook her head and continued to run her fingers through his hair. It was quiet between them, before Lovino reached a hand up to stop hers and said, "I'm not tired."
"Don't lie to me Lovino, I know you are, don't hide it from me, sweetheart," she responded gently.
"But I'm not! Look!," he pushed himself off the bed and almost fell off of it before catching himself and sat himself next to her, "See? I'm fucking fine, there's nothing tired about this shit body of mine."
Still, to his dismay, the look on her face did not tell him that she was convinced. Her hands reached up to cup his face, pulling him towards her and their forehead met, her nose nuzzling against his. Isabella's bright, emerald eyes stared back at his own and he knew no matter how hard he tried, she wasn't going to fall for it.
"Don't call your body shit, querido, you've pushed yourself too hard. I don't mind worrying about you like this, I want to do this, I want to take care of you. When I come home like that, you don't hesitate to worry about me do you? So let me return that favor Lovino, please?"
There was still a sense of doubt in the back of his mind that was too stubborn to leave but he nodded in resolve. Isabella smiled and hugged him and he returned the hug, resting his head on her shoulder and pressed his face against the crook of her neck. She started humming softly, petting his back as he relaxed against her.
And there, something about feeling her body against his and being in her arms felt more comforting and loving and human than the bed did.
"Why don't you sleep for a few hours and than I'll wake you up for dinner."
Lovino shook his head and protested, "no, you eat first, don't wait out for me."
"No, I want to do this, I can wait. Besides, that show we like is coming on late tonight, so we can eat dinner and watch it then!"
"Bella, you're al-"
But she interrupted him, "Lovi, you promised me remember?"
Pulling his head away to look at her, a light scowl adorned on his face but he nodded, knowing she was adamant about this. With a sigh, the scowl disappeared and a smile replaced it and he leaned in to plant a kiss on her lips, "thank you for doing this."
She returned the kiss and whispered back, "I love you, I would do anything to help you." And he knew that was true, there was no doubt about it, and he knew that he love her as much back.
