*Just a note, everything written from this point on can/may conflict with events occurring in the Marley and future arcs. I am creating a lot of my own lore here, and will insert details from the manga that fit my story, but nothing is guaranteed. Enjoy reading this fic!
The war was over.
Finally, after over a century of fighting, the conflict had come to an end. The Eldians had won, but to what cost?
The world was not what it once was. Millions lay dead and entire cities were in ruin; excluding the casualties inflicted by the Titans. The world needed time to rebuild itself. The question was, could the reformed military prevent this new reality from spiralling down into a state of decay, just like it had a millennium ago?
It turns out, they could not.
After the war, the reconquered territory was divided into three main administrative divisons:
1. The Special Capital Division of Paradis - Directly administered under the *De Facto monarchy.
2. The Afrique Administration - Administered by the local Afrikaner government, a historically segregated group that is a puppet of the Monarchy. Domain includes modern-day continental Eldia and the **disputed Middle Nation.
3. The Special Administrative Division of Germania and Territories. - Lies under the domain of the ***Frankish Kingdom, a historic enemy of both the Marleyans and the Eldians.
* Paradis is under a branch of the Fritz monarchy called the Jugends. The original Fritz bloodline was under heavy opposition from the people, so they essentially 'changed their name'. They still reside on the island. Queen Historia Reiss is the current monarch.
** Before the Great War, Marley had successfully invaded the Middle Nation and annexed it. Now that Marley has just recently been conquered by Eldia, Hizuru has laid a claim on this area, because of its plentiful oil reserves.
*** In Ancient times, Germania was the historic homeland of the Eldians. The Marleyans resided in Burgundy. Frankia bordered both of these nations, and eventually invaded them, driving them out and exiling them to Afrique. Since Eldia regained control of Afrique, they have subjugated Frankia and made them a satellite. Re-occupation of ethnic Eldians has been impossible due to animosity from the Frankian-dominated Germania.
Under these, there were subdivisions. Afrique has the most, numbering around 13 (depending on whether North-West Africa is considered a separate division), Germania has 10 and Paradis none. Subdivisions have a capital of their own, and subdivisions containing the capitals of the divisions were given special statuses. The Capital of Afrique is Bloemfontein, for Germania it's Bern, and for Paradis it is Vorrecht.
These locations will prove essential for the story to come, particularly Afrique.
