Disclaimer: I do not own Under a War-Torn sky.

A/N: Takes place when Henry is being held by the Nazis, after saving Claudette's life. This is right before and during Henry's final escape. I hope you enjoy this is my favorite book so I thought it was time to write a fan fiction for it.

"Could I be any hungrier?" Henry thought to himself.

"Starving, ravenous that's what I am I'm ravenous." He sighed and looked down at his bloody hands.

"Innocent lives taken away at such brutality, just like that dog it was hungry and killed for it. Or those men were killed for doing their job" He shook his head, his long, dirty, blonde hair falling over his eyes.

"I'm so used to being the hunter, being the hunted is not natural. Heartless, that's what they are. They are like rabid dogs not a feeling just killing on the brain."

Shaking his head again, he tried to push his mind towards something brighter. PATSY! It was as if just by thinking of her name, his mind was completely clear. "Escape, I need to escape! But how, what route do I take to freedom? Henry questioned, racking his brain for an answer.

"God, if you can hear me please help! I have never needed you this much before. But more than me protect Claudette and Pierre. God I plead with you to give me wings and let me fly. Let me leave this place, never to return. Allow me the pleasure of being home, of seeing Patsy smile, and hearing Mama laugh. God let your grace rain down on me… give me wings!"

As the regimental sergeant fired into nothingness, Henry understood. Freedom was his for the taking. God had given him his wings! He ran straight for the troops whether he got hit or not didn't matter, he was free!

He was so happy a smile almost landed on his face. "Mama, Patsy, Speed, Dad! Everyone I've left behind I'll see them again I'll be home! Home!" he just repeated this thought over and over again. Home, just the thought of it was Heaven.
