The Bombing

I sat staring at the burning Justice Hall in District 13 on the TV. Tears began to fall down my cheeks, 'Our only hope was District Thirteen,' my nightmares haunt me of the day we pleaded for District Thirteen to come help us after bombs started to fall on District Three, but they told us to surrender, they got a plan. The plan never happened.

We watched our main source of technology, advanced weaponry, and holos go up in flames. They took out two factories (not the main ones at least) and made a huge opening in the walls keeping District Three's citizens in. At least a thousand citizens flead just to get shot by Peacekeepers on the other side of the walls. 43 survived and told us they were spied on by jabberjays and someone leaked information on what weaponry they were developing. And two factories are gone. No help from District Thirteen and now we are hopeless with our leaders blown up completely with nuclear bombs.

When I watched the bomb go down on Thirteen, I didn't hear screaming, didn't see anyone attempting to flee. Just explosions and collapsing buildings. Is Thirteen hiding something? Did they flee before the bombs fell and arrive in Twelve in a week? Or did they want to surrender and die to stop the war? The Capitols president pops up on the screen before my questions are answered, "District Thirteen is officially no more." There are cheers in the audience in front of him. I grit my teeth, "The leading rebelling District is gone!" His arms are extended above is head. The crowd goes wild. Then there is silence. His face is stern. "With no leader of the rebels, they have no one to follow, no one to go to for help," I gulp down stones that fall with a thud to the bottom of my stomach.

District Three was next in line to lead, now that they are weak and not one of the wealthiest districts anymore...we have to surrender. Is this what Thirteen had planned for us? They weren't successful leaders anyway. Not going to anyones help for months on end and if they do they just say 'surrender.' Are they on the Capitols side and flead there before their homes got bombed? "As District Thirteen as a reminder of what can happen if you fight against the grateful Capitol," I tried to hide my eyes from the burning district, but something catches my eye...a mockingbird. But no it is something else...something I never seen before.

The Start Of 75 Years

No bird can survive in a quarantined area. Unless it was a mutt. I was transfixed by it not edging away, staring at the screen (again). Wind chilled the back of neck, I have been staring at the TV for hours, watching the replays of the bombings. "What do you think?" a sweet voice filled the cold room. "What do you mean? Thirteen is gone and that's all," watching the President's speech again. "No, what do you think of The Hunger Games?" her voice was muffled with tears, "Watch it again."

"...can happen if you fight against the grateful Capitol," the President paused before continuing, "but that won't be enough. We have came to a conclusion to have annual Hunger Games," he had a creepy smirk as his audience gasped, obviously for dramatic effect. I turn to a burned, limping little girl. "You helped at Three didn't you?" I whisper. She nods. "The Hunger Games will be a reminder to the Districts of the First Rebellion, when each year 24 tributes, two from each District, will fight to the death!" he shouts laughing, but no one laughs with him. They are shocked. We are shocked.
