Susie silently waited in front of the school, the doors still locked because of how early she arrived. Thankfully for her, she woke up before her father did, and her mother was out of town. She didn't want him to confront her about how she was late yesterday, and… Just thinking about him made her stomach shrivel up and turn. Looking up to the rising sun, she tried to guess the time being between Six and Seven. She lacked a watch and phone, and never bothered to ask for one. The less time she talked to the real monsters, the better.
A car slowly began to roll up into the school's driveway, the small white car with the Anime bumper stickers was known to be Alphys', especially ever since she got those stickers of a girl with pink hair, and a weird magical girl outfit. Susie couldn't help but think Anime was ridiculous. Just the way they looked and how they had so many 'Tropes'. Guessing by what she had overheard about it, she would hate it. Then again, she thought acting all nice would be the death of her, but when she tried it, well. A smile grew on her face as she thought of what happened yesterday. She had already missed the Fun Gang being apart. In the night, listening to the screams and shouts of home, she remembered something. Her hand found her way into her pocket, as she took out something small-
"Susie?" Alphys broke her out of her chain of thought, "W-what are you d-doing here this… this ea-early..?"
She dropped the small thing back into her pocket, "I'm just… Waiting for school to start." She smiled awkwardly, she had never cared about school until now. Then again, she didn't care about doing the work, she just wanted to go back to that closet.
It was clear that Alphys didn't believe her, but she nodded and awkwardly fumbled with her keys, as she unlocked the school doors.
"By chance, Ms. Alphys… What time is it?"
"It's… It's." She paused as she opened the door, before taking her phone out of her pocket. After a quick glance at her homepage background, she gathered that it was 6:30, and her teacher's anime obsession was more than just bumper stickers. About twenty different characters were on the phone screen, the words 'MEW MEW KISSY CUTIE!' boldly stood just above where the time was displayed. "It's six thirty." Alphys repeated what she already knew, before walking inside of the school, leaving the door open for her.
Susie sighed and followed her inside. The school was somewhat dark, the light from outside began to peak through the school's tinted windows. Alphys turned immediately for her own classroom, not bothering to look back for Susie. Her eyes naturally wandered to the closet, she wanted to get back to the DarkWorld, to see Lancer and Ralsei again. But she had to wait for Kris, they were going to go back together after all.
Susie was impatiently sitting in class, annoyance glowing in her eyes. Kris hadn't shown up to school today… Of course, he wouldn't, why would he want to show up when she was here? Perhaps he remembered those years of bullying all of a sudden and didn't want to confront her again. Or maybe he thought she was crazy, and maybe none of that was real. No, it was real… It had to be. She sighed, it didn't matter. Though it was a bit odd that Kris didn't show up, he always did, his mother made sure of that. Then again she hadn't shown up today either. She glanced up to the clock in the classroom. 7:47. Thirteen minutes before class began. She supposed she had the time to go see where they were, or at least ask Ms. Alphys. Susie slowly rose from her desk, looking around the classroom. Everyone was in attendance. Berdly and Noelle were discussing their already finished project, and who was going to hand it in. Temmie was still mumbling to her egg about their project and she was discussing to herself about the… hot demon guys… involved with her project. She shook her head and walked quietly up to Alphy's desk, hands in her pockets. "Hey, Ms. Alphys?"
Currently, the odd, yellow monster was typing away furiously at something on her computer, but when Susie spoke she slowly looked over, before hurriedly moving her swiveling chair to face her. She adjusted her glasses nervously and smiled up to her, "Y-yes, Susie?"
Susie sighed, she suddenly disliked the nervous disposition that her teacher usually had, but it was enhanced around her. She used to like it, but currently, it made her feel uncomfortable. "Where's Kris and Toriel..? I didn't see them come in today."
She quirked a brow, before frowning. "Oh, Oh t-they just… K-Kris just g-got su-suddenly sick."
Sick? He had shown no signs of possibly catching a cold or anything before, and even when he did get sick, Toriel would send him to school anyway. Even when he was a mess, and Alphys had to call Asgore to take him home in secret.
"Huh." She shrugged, "Alright, then… I'm heading to the restroom." Both of them knew that she most definitely was not going to the restroom. But Alphys nodded anyway, "D-don't take too long." And again, Susie shrugged her response as she walked out of the classroom. Almost immediately she headed towards the school's entrance, and outside. The sun flashed in her eyes, the rays cutting past her hair. With an annoyed grunt, she walked out of the school and began down towards the main part of town. Only one car sat in the parking lot still, and there was no sign of another showing up any time soon. But oddly, there was a yellow tricycle parked out with the other bikes, not locked up. She sighed and walked past it, heading north into town.
When she had reached the Dreemur house, a bit of jealously panged inside of her. She knew that they were well off, and their nice, quaint little house only proved it. It was much larger than Susie could ever hope to live in and much larger than the apartment herself and her parents currently lived. But she shook it off, she knew those good souls deserved a good life. And she… Well she didn't exactly deserve much good, did she? The nice red family van was still parked next to the house, polished and shining like it was three years ago when they got it. She rather awkwardly walked up to the door and knocked on it. Though she tried to keep the knocks somewhat quiet, they were naturally loud. "Just a moment..!" She could hear from inside.
And moments later, a kind yet exhausted face of a goat monster greeted her. "Hello, do you need something..?" She slowly looked over her shoulder, before back to Susie.
"Hello, Mrs. Toriel… Is- Is Kris okay?" That was the first thing on her mind, "When Alphys told me he was so sick he couldn't come, I… Well I... I just wanted to make sure my partner was okay."
"He's…" She glanced back, "He's fine- but I don't know if… He'll be around at school, for a time."
Something… Began to eat at Susie, just a feeling, a feeling in her soul told her to go inside. "Can I… uh- See him?"
Toriel looked a little surprised, before nodding cautiously and stepping out of the way of the door. "Are you, by chance, his new friend that he had mentioned yesterday?"
Friend. The fact that he considered her a friend made her smile a little bit, no one had ever called her that. Or, at least someone who wasn't mocking her a long, long time ago. But she just nodded slowly and walked inside.
The inside of the house was just as cute and quaint as she expected, the living room had a homey feeling, the TV being unplugged was something odd to see anywhere, but it was sort of… nice. The curtains over the windows were closed and didn't allow light through, but the golden walls were lit by a lightbulb above. The Kitchen was even nicer than the living room, with a dining table right across from the stove, counters, and fridge. Just from afar Susie could see the cute little drawings from a few years back, still pinned on the fridge along with a few other things. The golden walls and coloring of, well, the whole house, just made her smile. It was much better than the dark, drab walls of her own home, only lit by the light of a TV that was always blaring some movie that she probably should've never seen at her age.
Toriel seemed to notice her glancing around the house, as she smiled sheepishly and walked towards the stairs right past the kitchen. "I apologize- I wasn't expecting visitors, so my home isn't that clean…"
It sure was cleaner than hers, with no broken bottles of wine or whiskey on the floor. "It's fine." She sighed as she followed her up the stairs, up into a somewhat short hallway. There were a few plants, and two doors into two separate rooms. Toriel was already walking towards the closest door to the stairs, which the door was left ajar. Inside there was a bit of a ruckus over something, the sounds of shuffling coming from the room.
When the two entered the room, one half of the room had a bed, with shelves above it boasting plenty of trophies from all sorts of events. This was clearly Asriel's side of the room, as the bed was left completely alone since he went off to college, and he was known to have won a lot of trophies and awards, being the golden boy of the Dreemur family. The other side of the room, however, was mostly barren, except for…
Susie's heart skipped a beat, her eyes widening slightly. Kris was sitting on his bed, holding a birdcage with… A soul- his soul inside of it- a knife in his hand, and… She naturally pushed past Toriel, snatching the knife from his hands and pushing him back. "What. Are. You. Doing, Kris?!" She shouted, as he just slowly looked up to her blankly, a red glow coming from his eyes. She was slightly intimidated, she had never seen a human with glowing red eyes before… Or one that was trying to stab out their own soul. And, now that she was seeing it… She could see her soul, too. A white upside-down heart buried deep, deep in her chest.
Seeing souls wasn't normal, unless someone was in danger, in a life-threatening situation… So that meant-
Kris lunged back at her in her moment of surprise, stealing the knife from her and shoving her to the ground, off of the bed. He fumbled with the knife in his hands, before holding it above his head and aiming right for his soul. "Kris!-"
Hurriedly, a purple dress swept by Susie, blocking her view as Toriel stepped in front of her, doing something that she just couldn't see… But at least the sound of a soul shattering wasn't heard. She hurriedly stood so she could see what was going on- Toriel had taken the knife from Kris, having sat it down just out of his grip and wrapped him in a hug and was whispering something to him, trying to calm him down.
Susie hurriedly snatched the knife, and moved it further out of his grip, setting it in a small, empty red wagon. "Throw it out…" she heard a grumble, which caused her to look over. Kris was glaring right at her, cage still in his arms and his eyes glowing like two rubies. He hurriedly tossed it to her, repeating what he had said previously. "Throw... It… Out."
She caught it with care. But… Throw out his soul? Had he lost it, or something? There was no way in hell she was doing that. Swiftly she opened the cage, the ruby red soul shining brightly inside of it.
Toriel was still trying to console him and was clearly confused by his actions, telling her to throw out the cage. Could she not see the soul, like them? Either way, it didn't matter. The soul hurried out of the birdcage and flew towards Kris. His eyes widened as he shoved his mother aside, hopping out of the way of the soul. There was a mixture of fear and anger in his eyes, as it flew towards him once more, he caught it in his hands.
The world seemed to stop revolving as it began to crack in his hands, as he attempted to shatter it, he began screaming. And screaming… It was so loud, it was near impossible to understand as black curtains rushed over Susie's eyes, worry and fear began to enter her mind and mingle with her thoughts.
And then, she could see again. In her hands was the fragile human soul, on the verge of shattering. She heard it whisper to her, something so quiet that she can't remember. But, she accepted what it told her. She accepted everything that would happen from that point onward- and…

Thank you for reading this! I don't know how much of this there will be, but there is already an ending in sight. (Though, it's a pretty open end...)
