Running...we were always running, we foxes of Fairfax Avenue. She and I; strong willed, eager, pushed by a yearning for excitement. Fierce, fire-eyed Legs Sadovsky with her multiple blades and blood on her boy-coat. Ripped jeans, ratty white hair that was greyed with dirt and the outdoors.
...She and I, if ever alone and safe, would perch atop a roof, looking out at the city like it was our ocean; ours for commanding. She rubbed the heel of her palm to her eye, the one with the bloodspot that had not faded. The eye she saw nothing but black in.
"Y'know Maddy?" she whispers, kissing my neck so lightly, "I'm glad you stayed. I love you. Love you so damn much. Your my *heart*." I smiled, lips to her fingertips and passed her the bottle of red wine.
...The others had left. Gone to be women with boyfriends and kids at sixteen. But we had stayed loyal to eachother to FOXFIRE to ourselves. Her eyes shone with alcoholic bliss and I shivered from the winter's breath; it would snow soon. Quietly, I touched my lips to her mouth, eyes closed and I focused only on her.
The moment of us.
