It was a day like any other, warm breeze, yet a brisk feeling in the air. She stopped by the bookstore again, it was the 3rd time this week. Whenever she stepped through the door, she headed straight for my desk and asked where the mystery novels were. I was starting to think she asked this just to talk to me. I am the total opposite of her. She is beautiful, calm and serene. Well, me, I'm dorky and foolish. Why would she want to speak to me?
One day when she came in the store, I got my nerve up and asked what her name was. She replied in her cool voice, "Elsa. And might I ask what yours is?" Before I could reply she leaned over and read my name tag. "Anna is a beautiful name, you know." I replied with a curt nod. Elsa then went over to the mystery section as always. She never bought anything, just read them. But, thats ok, I think she only skims through them, seeing if there is one she will buy.
My boyfriend Kristoff came in the store and caught me staring at Elsa. He questioned me, "Why are you staring at her?" It was a little too loud and she turned and looked at me. I blushed and faced toward Kristoff. In his hand was a coffee, a mocha to be exact. "I got you your favorite." Kristoff told me. I replied, "Of course you did, you always do." I took a sip of the coffee. It filled my body with warmth. He told me he had to get back to work because it was only his break.
After he left, Elsa strode up to me with a book in hand. I asked her, "Would you like to purchase that?" She responded, "Yes, I would." As she handed the book to me, our hands touched and I felt an icy cold feeling. I just kept on with the conversation, "I heard this is a good read. I hope you enjoy it." She replied, "Well, I won't be the one enjoying it. You will!" I didn't know how to reply. " I can't take this gift, it's too much." I exclaimed. She looked disappointed. "I thought you would enjoy the present. I guess I will take it. If you want it, you can call me." Elsa handed me a slip of paper with her phone number on it. She left rapidly after that leaving a chill in the area.
Later that night, I decided I would call the number and apologize for being so rude earlier. I dialed the number. *riiiing* *riiiiiing* *riiiiing* "Hello?" I heard a voice say. I knew it was not Elsa's, it was definitely a male's voice. "Um, is Elsa there?" I asked in a meek voice. "..." I heard a faint shout from the other end. "Hey babe, I think there is someone on the phone who wants to talk to you." I listened to Elsa screech, "How many times do I have to tell you to NOT call me babe?" There was a silence on the line and then she picked up the phone. "Hello? Who is this?" she pondered. "Uh, its Anna, you know from the bookstore." There was a brief silence. "Oh, hey. Were you wanting that book I bought you earlier?" I replied "I guess, I was just calling to say I was sorry for being rude earlier."
Elsa responded "Oh, thats fine. So, do you want, like, to pick up the book sometime, and maybe we can chat or something?" I paused for a moment. "I guess so. I have a day off tomorrow. Would you like to meet up at the coffee shop sometime tomorrow?" There was joy in her reply "Of course! how does 1:30 sound?" I said "sounds good to me. See you then." She echoed my answer with a brief "goodbye" and hung up. I guess there is no way out of this.
