A/N: Seriously, don't read this unless you have seen Rogue One. DON'T DEWIT! Also, if you haven't seen Rogue One, GO WATCH IT RIGHT NOW! It is literally probably the best Star Wars movie since Return of the Jedi! I love it! Also, Chirrut is definitely my favorite character. :3 He is so savage! Anyway, enjoy!
"I am one with the Force, and the Force is with me."
"I am one with the Force, and the Force is with me."
Chirrut Îmwe muttered to himself, gripping his staff tightly in his hands. Sand brushed beneath the soles of his shoes, the sound catching his ears' attention. He had to stay focused, though. He couldn't lose focus. His feet moved with the Force, which was leading him towards the switch that would help save them all.
Well, perhaps not all of them.
Yes, Chirrut could feel it. He could feel the grip of the Force that pulled at the souls of people who would soon become one with it. He could feel it tugging at him, too. It was calling to him; beckoning him to let go and join the other soldiers who had perished in this war. However, the monk had one last thing left to do.
"I am one with the Force, and the Force is with me."
"I am one with the Force, and the Force is with me."
He knew he was in the middle of the battle, now. Blaster bolts whizzed past his ears, and he could feel the heat of the lasers cross near his face. Chirrut was not afraid, though. The Force would protect him. Well, as long as he needed to be protected, at least. He was getting closer, now. He could sense it.
"I am one with the Force, and—"
"Chirrut!" Baze was calling to him. Chirrut knew his friend was baffled by his actions, but he did not stop. He couldn't. There was no going against the will of the Force, even if the other man did not believe in its power anymore. Chirrut took a deep breath, ignoring the calls of his friend. This had to be done. If not, there would be no hope left for anyone.
"I am one with the Force, and the Force is with me."
The grip on him was stronger, now. The Force tugged at him relentlessly, assuring him it would soon be time to go. Just a moment longer... he thought, knowing the end was near. Bolts flew past and missed the monk over and over, stunning the soldiers engaging in the battle. He was not afraid at all. The Force was there. It would protect him until the end.
In his last moments, Chirrut thought of his friends. Jyn, Cassian, and K-2SO would be getting the plans. He knew they would succeed; he could sense it. This gave him hope that they would survive, but he could not be certain. He was not a Jedi, and the future was always in motion. Chirrut prayed for their safety. As for Baze, he could feel the pull of death approaching him, as well.
Soon, they would both exist in the Force.
"I am one with the Force, and the Force is with me."
He was there. Chirrut stepped onto the platform, placing his hand on what he believed to be the console. He felt around as he searched for the switch. Suddenly, his hand landed on one, and the Force pulled at him so strongly that it almost seemed to whisper "This is the one."
A smile graced the blind man's lips, and he pulled the switch. It was done, and it was time to go. Baze was still calling to him, the war still waged on behind him. Chirrut turned around, clutching his staff with one hand, and he smiled with joy. The ending of the beginning had arrived, and his story was done to pass on to a new hero.
The explosion threw him across the landscape.
THE END
