Warnings: …Depends on how you read it. It's a Draco POV, and I had Harry in mind near the end of the poem…but it could just as easily be Ron or Hermione. The last line could have you assume that it's the beginning of a romantic relationship, but, again, it's all in how you read it—I didn't truly have any ideas of slash in my head while I was writing it (honest).
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters this poem-story was based on, but I do own the poem—steal it and die.
Title: It's the LookIt's the look in his eyes
When I visit him in prison and see how he feels,
Forcing me to realize that he's nearly gone and I must grow up—
And then he's taken away, deep into the bowels of hell;
I watch him fade—watch him, and feel helpless.
***
It's the look in her eyes
When I return home from my visit and she is hopeful,
But it fades when I calmly ask for the keys—
And the meeting is a horrid, morbid affair;
I stand in disgust—stand and promise myself a change.
***
It's the look in their eyes
When I walk down the street with my head held straight,
Seemingly permanent sneer gone from my face in favor of apathy—
And I don't glare or snarl at the child that runs into me;
I help him up—help him and continue on my way.
***
It's the look in their eyes
When I wake right past you and your friends,
Looking foolish as you always do—
And you tense in preparation of my usual insults;
I nod—just nod and climb on the train.
***
It's the look in your eyes
When I glide over to your table and my enemies,
Right before the Feast begins, right in front of everyone—
And you stare, suspicion and surprise on your face;
I hold out my hand to you—hold it out and wait.
***
But it's the look in my eyes
When you clasp my hand and shake it vigorously,
Grinning as only you can, as only you ever would to me—
And we're stuck in time just staring at each other;
Finally it ends—it ends and we begin.
