Danny McCoy and Mary Connell looked at each other blissfully. They're hands met and they held on to each other for a few brief moments before saying a brief goodbye to each other. Danny had come back from war. But that was all that had happened in the relationship. It was the first time he had been to war and his feelings from what he had seen were horrific as the images that burnt themselves into his nightmares. He truly loved Mary. But he didn't know how to tell her another time. Knowing that they were both okay and alive kept each other going.

Reaching out to each other
Is all that we can do
Here we stand trying not to fall
There's no need to worry

As Danny turned he heard the screech of brakes and... Mary! 'Shit!' he thought, he turned and ran towards the frail body of his best friend. "Mary!" he cried before screaming at the driver to call an ambulance. He felt a pulse and Mary opened her eyes slightly at his screams and cries.
"Mary..." a tear rolled off Danny's face and onto her cheek. "I love you." He said as he took his jacket off and applied pressure to her wound, using his jacket as a makeshift pad. He embraced her in a slight hug and kissed her forehead.
"I love you too Danny..." She whispered in a reply.

Just how long will last
Will all of the bad times pass?
How can we make things right?
Ooh and why, why is the world so unkind?-
Danny rode with her in the back of the ambulance. And the trip went in silence, Danny holding her hand. "It's going to be okay..." He whispered almost constantly to her. He sat in the waiting room tears running themselves down his cheeks. He had called Mary's mother but she could not make it until morning.

A doctor entered he waiting room and Danny stood up quickly. The doctor looked away for a second.
"Mr McCoy. I'm sorry but your friend has passed away." The doctor said calmly.

Danny woke with a start.
"You were talking in your sleep! You were having a nightmare." Mary said quietly. She looked worried.

Finally I managed to write a short story without not being able to finish it in the one chapter! But whatever. Review anyway!
