Established Sam/Andy.
…
They're about to serve an arrest warrant for a suspected murderer when he finally says it.
It's so sudden, so random, so out-of-the-blue, that Andy McNally momentarily forgets where they are and what they're supposed to be doing. She couldn't even tell you what sparked the sudden confession, but all she knows is that they're standing with their weapons drawn about to kick in the back door of the suspect's apartment if given the signal, and he just says it.
"I love you."
She doesn't even have time to dwell on it, because within seconds Jerry Barber is radioing them with a countdown and Sam Swarek kicks the door down for them to begin clearing the back end of the house along with two other officers. Andy has to shake the thought from her head, and while it nags at the back of her mind for the remainder of the morning that they're on shift, she forgets about the confession for the time-being.
When the pair finally have a moment alone since the raid, it's only because he pulls her into an empty observation room when they're on their way back to the squad car to finish the final few hours of their shift. Normally she'd tell him off for something so foolish as to think that she can be pulled into an empty room to make out like teenagers. Instead she's standing there in silence and trapped against the closed door with a hand cupping her cheek and the other on her waist.
"I love you."
There's a small smile on his lips, the corners curved up ever so slightly that had Andy laughing breathlessly as she chastely kisses him.
A thumb wipes gently across her cheekbone and he shakes his head, smile growing, "God I love you McNally."
"I kind of figured, yanno, with the kisses and all that."
A scoff escapes Sam Swarek and he moves to kiss her again, stopping with the crackle of the radio. A request for suspect transport reminds the female officer that they're on the clock and her smile drops.
"We'll this up later," Sam murmurs, closing his eyes with a resigned sigh.
"Sure hope so Romeo."

So five years with ffnet is still my longest relationship. But here we are! Five years!
I found this little drabble hidden in my drafts folder and thought it fitting for the limited time I have tonight to write something.
Thank you to everyone whose followed/favourited/reviewed anything over the last five years, I've come a long way from the first story I posted (and deleted not long after).
All mistakes are mine.
