Gilda was up late again. Even though it had been two years since she'd lost her husband
to the attack that tore his face and soul in half, she still wasn't used to sleeping alone. So
she waited until exhaustion would finally claim her…
Until she heard two knocks on the windowframe nearest her bed. She pulled a .22 from
the nightstand drawer, readying it as she approached the window. She yanked the
curtain back, ready to fire through the glass until she saw him.
"Harvey?"
"Yes… may, may I come in?"
She put the pistol down, so eager to have him close that she just let him in through the
window.
"Turn off the lights." He'd half-turned from her, trying to hide his scars.
"Are you sure? I don't mind…"
"Please..?"
She hurried to do so, as he pulled the window and curtains shut. "Harvey, I've missed you…"
"You don't know how much I've missed you?"
"Then why didn't you come back?"
"He wouldn't allow it!" Harvey snarled, then tried to control his voice. "I – honestly, I didn't
mean to snap at you?"
"I know." Gilda reassured him, then guided him through the darkness to her bed.
Harvey followed her lead; they'd spent so many nights they'd spent together they didn't
need sight. His hands stroked through her hair – then stopped as she caressed his scars.
"Not there?" he pleaded.
"I want all of you, Harvey!" Gilda punctuated her words with a lingering kiss on each cheek;
she tasted the tears flowing from his good eye.
"I love you, Gilda."
"I love you, Harvey."
…and soon they were one in their shared joy.
