Perdido Beach

She was watching them leave - go off, to a life with enough food and fresh water to actually call it a life. To a life under an at least halfway selfless leader.

School Bus Sammy. She hadn't been on the bus, but she knew people who had. He'd be a better leader than Caine, at least.

She didn't want to live under a power-hungry "king". But she couldn't leave; this was where her life was. Her sister was buried here, having died relatively early in the FAYZ. Kids didn't know how to drive.

The bones of her cat were buried in the garden - she'd loved that cat, but she couldn't feel bad for what she had done. Back then, everyone had been hungry.

She watched them leave, resenting them and herself, because of all of this. How could they leave their lives behind?

Had they changed so much that their old lives didn't matter any more? She never would. This place, under a tyrant and with death everywhere, was still her home.
