Sam lay sprawled on his bed with a bag of popcorn in his hands as he watched the television. It was a long time - months, even - since he'd been able to sit down and watch telly of a Thursday night, and he wasn't about to waste it.
He alternated between popping food into his mouth and snickering uncontrollably. Sometimes he forgot to alternate and ended up choking on the flaky, buttery debris in his mouth. When this happened, he'd quickly try to cover it up, lest his brother enter to find out what was going on. Not that he would come into the room to ask what was funny. No, he would simply came in the room, unplug the television and throw something in Sam's direction before storming right back out.
It all started two months ago, give or take, when Dean had returned from a "night of leisure" to find Sam engrossed in the television. His good mood quickly sobered up to something resembling cryogenic stasis when he saw himself kissing some brunette on screen. Shocked, not because he was caught on television (though being broadcast wasn't something he needed right now), but because Dean was sure he'd remember making out with someone who looked like that. And he didn't.
"Sammy, wanna tell me what the hell's going on?"
Sam looked back and forth between the screen and Dean, no substantial answer forthcoming. "Uhm..."
When the show went to a commercial, he pressed. "Anytime now, really."
"It's... a show?"
"I can see that, genius. What I want to know what the hell am I doing on a show?"
"You're banging Lana Lang. Though from what I can tell, it's pretty suss considering you're now the school's football coach. And I don't think Clark's going to be happy when he finds out."
The look Dean sent his way simply said, 'the fuck?' and prompted Sam to open his laptop and firehose him with a multitude of information concerning the show and the characters, including how much of a (and Sam couldn't help but snicker at this part) "momma's boy" his likeness was. And lastly, from the research that he'd compiled, he stated that the actor who portrayed one Jason Teague wasn't some fugly; and if he was he seemed to be leading a clean life, so they had no reason to hunt him down... yet.
This did little to help Dean's mood, and he left abruptly needing to, "think this over".
Translation: get drunk and try not to think about it.
When he returned late the next morning, he told Sam to pack his bags and that they were leaving.
The next thursday, Sam found Dean watching reruns of Days of Our Lives, and when he looked at him, Dean simply replied, "There's nothing else on."
Yeah, right.
The week after that, Sam commandeered the television and told Dean to just give it a shot, it wasn't that bad. After twenty minutes of forced viewing, Dean disagreed. Sam, trying very hard not to laugh, couldn't managed the words to dispute it.
When Sam got up in the break to go to the toilet, he returned to find it back on reruns of daytime soap, and after a wrestling match for the remote (which he lost), Dean ultimated that it was either this, or the television would stay off on Thurdays. And so was the way it was.
...Until, one night, Dean found himself looking at a much younger version of himself having an affair with some chick named Nicole. Then, the television simply stayed off.
After that, it was no surprise to Sam that everytime they seemed to work a job, it happened on Thursday.
