It had been nearly a month since Nick Jordan had left Holby City E.D leaving the department without a clinical lead. There had a been a lot of speculation about who was going to take over from Nick's old position. Hanssen had interviewed two members of staff for the role. And he had made his choice about who was going to take over from Nick. As everyone gathered around in the staffroom of the department.
They all waited for Mr Hanssen to arrive to deliver the good news to the new clinical lead. Everyone was waiting in the staffroom before long Mr Hanssen arrived at the door, Aofie that was closet to the door. She opened it for him and then closed the door behind him.
"Sorry to keep you all waiting. I had a urgent matter to take care of, none the less I'm here to tell you who will be taking over from Mr Jordan, now there has been two very successful candidates for this post but unfortunately there is only one job, and these two are 'Doctor Hanna, everyone turned to look at Zoe.
Before Mr Hanssen carried on. And the other candidate is Doctor Nicholls" he explained further suddenly everyone that looked at Zoe were now looking at Sam who were clearly stunned.
"And I'm happy to announce the new clinical lead of Holby E,D is..." Mr Hanssen said.
"Congratulations Doctor Nicholls, you are the new clinical lead" said Mr Hanssen. He shook Sam's hand before quietly leaving the staffroom leaving the rest of the staff to congratulate Sam on her success. Meanwhile Zoe couldn't help but feel envious of the young doctor. She was convinced that the job was hers after the interview, and not only that. Zoe hadn't been informed that someone else had applied for the job.
While Tom, Tess, Fletch and everyone went to congratulate Sam. Zoe stood in the corner when Ash approached her.
"I sense you're not going to congratulate Sam on her achievement" said Ash
Zoe looked at him for a moment before giving him a cold heart 'no'.
"I sense a case of the green eye monster" Ash said suddenly looking at Zoe.
"I'm not jealous of Sam let me make that clear. It's clearly ageism, I mean she's a lot younger and she's only been here a year, and she gets a promotion when I was certain to get the post" Zoe grumbled. Letting her frustration show.
"I'm pretty sure Mr Hanssen had his reasons for giving Sam the role" Ash explained.
"Yeah she probably slept with him" Zoe muttered unaware that Sam had heard her. Sam watched as she saw Zoe leave the staffroom. Her words stung a lot. Sam had always considered Zoe a friend and colleague.
But hearing that changed things all together. She brushed off Zoe's comments as Sam and Tom headed out of the staffroom to head to the pub to celebrate, little was Sam aware that this was the start of a war.
