MORE THAN ONE SIDE

DISCLAIMER

Written mainly 'cause I've got writer's block for my 21 Jump Street fic. It occurred to me that Nancy was pretty defensive and protective of Rod in the movie, and this is my take on why. Pre-movie. Characters belong to Wes Craven.

There was more than one side to Rod Lane, although he didn't let many people know it. Most people---even Tina and Glen---just knew about the side of him that was a troublemaker and bad boy. They had never caught the slight look of worry when Rod talked about his folks. Nancy Thompson frowned and shook away these dark thoughts as she fiddled with her locker. She let out a frustrated exclamation when she realized it was jammed again.

"Great. Just great," she grumbled. It figured that her locker would act up while Glen was in class. She continued to struggle with the lock as one of the school's football players, Roger Ellis, walked up to her.

"Heya, Nance," he greeted, sidling up to her.

"Hi, Roger," she said, not even looking at him.

"Problems?" he queried, grinning in anticipation. Thompson was so hot. And if he helped her out, she'd do anything for him.

"No, I got it," was her response. She continued to fiddle with her locker.

"I can help," Roger said oily, stepping closer.

"It's okay," Nancy responded, moving forward. Now she was nearly squished near her locker.

"Come on. It won't take long. All I gotta do is---" as he talked, Roger pressed himself against Nancy.

"What are---get off!" Nancy exclaimed, trying to hit him.

"Cool down. Just let me help you and then---I'll tell you how you can thank me," Roger murmured, letting his lips brush her neck lightly.

"You're disgusting! Get off of me!" Nancy cried, trying to fight.

"Stop it. All you have to do---" Roger began.

"She said get off!" a voice interrupted him. Roger was yanked away from the girl. Nancy turned around to see Rod.

"Rod," she said in relief.

"Gentlemen listen to the word 'no'," Rod stated.

"I didn't touch her," Roger shot back.

"Beat it," Rod snarled, taking a threatening step towards him. Roger gulped and took off.

"You okay? He didn't hurt you, did he?" Rod asked in concern, touching her arm gently.

"No, I'm all right. Thanks for the rescue," Nancy responded.

"What's the problem?" Rod queried.

"My locker's jammed again," Nancy told him. Rod reached over and jiggled it. The door swung open.

"Thanks," Nancy said, as she got her books.

"Come on. I'll walk you to your class," Rod offered. She stepped closer to her friend and together, they walked down the hall. Yeah, there was more than one side to Rod, which was why she'd always defend him…no matter what.
