she took my heart / i think she took my soul

( your shimmy shook my bones )
He presses his lips to his gloved hands and breathes. This doesn't help at all, but he continues, constantly rubbing his fingers together and releasing carbon dioxide into the fabric. It's raining. He curses underneath his breath, and whispers, "I hate this." No one's around to hear him, but he continues anyway, "But fuck it if I'm not going to find her."
( leaving me stranded all in love on my own )
She waits for them, sometimes. She sits on the beach (sometimes alone, sometimes people come and make sure she isn't going fucking insane) and sometimes she brings a book, or a notepad to record her thoughts. It's a lie to say she's lonely – she has plenty of friends, plenty of people who care, who she can talk to – but she does miss them, and though she's not on an active search, she strives to remember, and writes the memories she can. One, she can clearly see – a pinnacle of light and happiness... His name is Sora, she knows. He has brown hair and blue eyes and he sure does smile a lot.
But the other boy – a shadow of Sora's. Sometimes in the corner, sometimes sitting with her, watching the sun set. She remember the moments, but she's missing who he is. So she waits.
( do you think of me? )
He's just trying to get back home, but no one seems to be able to help him (not that this place is full of people to ask, anyway). Sometimes, he catches himself thinking of this place (wherever 'this place' is, for the night) is home.
But really, he's trying to get back to her. He remembers everything about her: Her smile, and that she loved the rain more than she liked sunshine, and how she usually painted her toes pink but her fingernails were shaded dark purple, most days.
( where am i now baby, where do i sleep? )
And when he does get home, she's waiting. Sora's there... Back where he belongs. He's running to her, and he's grinning (as always). They hug and they almost kiss and they spin around and around again and then –
She sees the shadow, and she knows who it is. His name, Riku, stands alone as the one she sees most clearly. It all comes flooding back: rushed kisses between the trees, and the week when Sora's family went on Vacation and they watched the house together... It feels unforgettable.
He doesn't smile when he sees her, and he doesn't even hug her hello. He nods, awkwardly, to Sora, and then her, and she smiles and mouths the words, "I missed you," before turning to hug him.
( and it's coming closer )
He doesn't say anything, because when he sees her, it kind of breaks his heart. He immediately forgets everything he knew about her; the sweet, supple Kairi he'd known before has turned into an enhanced, a version two-point-oh who doesn't seem very much the same at all. He can see Sora grinning at her, and he can see her looking back...
And Riku can't smile at them, can't enjoy their moment because fuck you man I've been fighting darkness to find this girl! but Sora can't hear him so it's just useless. He hugs her, then leaves. He's gone, forever (at least for her). He thinks it's only fair, though, since she forgot him, first.
She wishes she could forget again.
