11:40 P.M.

"What's your New Year's resolutions, Professah?"

The man adjusted his hat. "Well, Luke, I resolve to solve whatever the new year brings. After all, it's a new decade. Who knows what will happen."

"What about you, Flora?" Luke asked.

"Hmm...well, I plan to get better at solving the puzzles. And, well..." she blushed slightly, "...hopefully, I can get better at my cooking..."

"What about yourself, Luke? I'm interested to what you want to do, for both this new year and new decade." The Professor asked.

Luke pondered. "Well...I never gave it very much thought..."

11:45 P.M

Layton parked the Laytonmobile onto the grassy hill, and pulled a blanket from the trunk. The three of them spread out the blanket upon the ground. All of them then sat upon it, and gazed upon the river. A boat in the middle was preparing the fireworks for the show.

11:50 P.M.

It was cool out, a slight breeze. The sky was clear, perfect for viewing the show. Stars twinkled in the sky. Not a cloud in sight. Luke gave a slight yawn. As exciting as this was, he couldn't help but admit that he wasn't used to staying up this late due to school. Layton laid down on his back. Flora was twiddling her fingers, so nervous for the new year.

11:55 P.M.

Five minutes to go. The rest of the crowd became louder in anticipation. Luke looked around. There were hundreds of people. A bit disruptive, but it didn't matter. He snuggled to the Professor. The professor put his arm around the boy. Flora snuggled to Luke. Time was going by slowly, but they were almost there. The crowd was beginning to get restless. Lots of loud talking all around.

11:59 P.M.

Suddenly people began to count down the time. Merely 1 minute left! Flora giggled happily. A siren went off to alert the people.

30 seconds.

A whistle resounded. A trail of sparks. And then a loud bang. Colors and lights filled the new year sky. Flora giggled and grabbed Luke close, landing a kiss on his cheek. Layton closed his eyes and smiled. This new years would be a good one.
