Selenium

"And you think you're superior to us why?" I've always had a problem keeping my mouth shut, and this seemed to be no exception. Mouthing off to the Decepticons was probably a very good way to get myself to killed. Ah well always said I had a high int, low wisdom score.

"I mean sure you're bigger then us and can transform," I plowed on. "But really you are bound by the same laws of physics as we are."

That got a reaction. One of the flyers grabbed me up and brought me close to his face. "We are not like you pathetic fleshling. We are not based off primarily carbon."

"Then what are you based off of? Silicon?" As soon as I said it I readied myself to die.

Instead the Decepticon merely looked down at me in disgust. "Why ever would you think we're silicon based. The primary element of our make up is the one you call selenium."

His tone was haughty, and I felt the growing urge to wipe the floor with his mightiness. Unable to contain myself I let out a laugh of disbelief.

"What?" He growled.

"Selenium makes as much sense as silicon." I paused and he just looked at me, glaring. "Selenium, silicon and carbon all have one important factor in common. 4 valence electrons. That's why scientist hypothesized that any other type of life out there might be silicon based. Selenium has the same trait, and therefore would work just as well. Like I said what makes you better then us? A couple more shells of electrons?"

At that moment I felt closer to death then I ever have before. For a long moment the Decepticon simply glared at me before placing me none to gently back in my cell. After which he stomped out of the room. I felt a sigh of relief as he left. Now all I needed was to get out of here. After all, the fact that the Cybertronians were selenium based would make for wonderful propaganda. So much for the Decepticon theory of superiority.

AN: OK I don't really know much about selenium as an element, and only the barest facts about the theory that other life in the universe might be silicon based, because of the 4 valence electrons. And while selenium does have the 4 valence electrons, I don't know if for other reasons if it theoretically could be a major part in a living organism. Oh and I know Selenium is a non-metal, but the most stable form is gray and metal looking.
