He Loves Me Not
She always has been small for her age. Her red hair is hanging in her eyes and her robes are frayed at the bottoms; he grabs her wrist and pulls her to him.
"I love you," she whispers in his ear as he hisses, "I hate you" into her hair. He reaches for his wand; she's beginning to worry him now and he thinks that she's starting to catch on.
"Imperious!" he shouts, wand pointed at her heart. Her eyes seem to glaze over and, for the second time that night, she feels absolutely nothing.
"Let's go for a walk," he says, still holding her wrist.
He checks her pocket to make sure that her wand is there; she'll definitely need it where they're going. Draco, walking arrogantly beside her, doesn't even realize that his newly-tattooed Dark Mark is exposed. She points to it, unwilling to speak to him now, and he smiles apologetically (though she has seen this smile time and time again and knows it to be false) and pulls his sleeve back down.
"Thanks," he says insincerely. "Can't let anyone see that, can we?" She shakes her head "no" while trying to remember the events that took place the night before. And the night before that. And the night before that. She's terrified when she realizes that she can't seem to remember any of them right now.
They find the house quite easily; Ginny's been there quite a few times before and it's the smallest one on the block. Draco is whispering to her, telling her exactly what they're going to be doing, and even though her mind is screaming, "No, no", she is hissing, "Yes, yes". She hears him saying it along with her, "Yes, yes, Ginny; yes". And she repeats it over and over until they get to the door and break it down.
Hermione Granger wakes with a start. It sounds to her as though someone is breaking in; she grabs her wand, sure that the Ministry will excuse her just this one time, and creeps down the stairs. She is horrified to see Malfoy and Ginny standing in her doorway.
"Ginny, what're you doing here?" she asks groggily, hands shaking. Ginny seems to look to Malfoy for guidance, and he shakes his head "no" and she says nothing.
"Answer me!" Hermione insists angrily, and Ginny whispers, "No." It feels like a revolution to Ginny; Draco, if only for a moment, looks stunned. But he soon regains his confident composure and instructs Ginny to take out her wand. She does.
"Kill her," he tells Ginny, pointing at Hermione. And she does.
The next day, right as St. Mungo's is opening its gates, an unmarked vehicle pulls up and a girl, looking confused and depressed, brings a body to the doors. Her red hair is in her eyes and she doesn't know why the responsibility fell on her to deliver the body; she doesn't even know what happened to Hermione! She wonders who murdered her, wiping tears from her eyes, as she knocks on the door.
"Where did you find her?"
"In her home."
"Do you know what happened to her?"
"No."
"Well, it's a good thing that you brought her to us; the Death Eaters might've taken her body otherwise."
"You're welcome." And she leaves.
"Imperious," he hisses again that night, and she doesn't recoil like usual. Her eyes look haunted now and she takes a step forward.
"That's right," he says approvingly to her. "You're finally getting it, aren't you, Ginevra?"
"Yes, yes," she whispers, knowing that she will forget everything tomorrow but not caring much right now. "Yes."
"Good girl," he murmurs, pulling her closer.
"I love you," she says, same as always.
"I hate you," he replies, not noticing the tears that are forming at the corners of her eyes.
"I hate you," she whispers back maliciously, repeating him. "I hatehatehate you."
"You don't," he replies. She doesn't.
(the end)
A/N: The reason she forgets things is because he Obliviates her memory every time. Just to clarify.
