Don't Worry, Sammy
~Set during the Flashbacks in Season 4 Episode 13 "After School Special"~
written by anotherscreamingfangirl who does not own supernatural, but it would be a nice birthday gift. just sayin.
By the time he hit high-school, Dean Winchester was about the toughest teenager there was. It wasn't easy- always on the road, never having friends or a safe home or anything at all to hang on to, just a gun under his pillow and the knowledge that nightmares are real. Dean hardened himself to survive it all; played the bad boy, exemplified his father.
But Sammy... Sammy was different. After all he'd seen he still wanted to see the good in people. To make friends. To open himself up to others. He was just a little kid and it was Dean's responsibility to look after him.
.
They're out on the playground after school, waiting for their dad to pick them up.
Sam's unhappy. Dean can tell. He shoves his hands in the pockets of his dad's old coat and bumps his little brother with his arm.
"Rough day, Sammy?"
Sam huffs, scowling and scuffing at the ground with a worn-out sneaker.
"I'm tired of moving all the time, Dean. I'm tired of always being the new kid. I'm tired of being the 'midget freak'."
Dean sighs. Sammy's told Dean to stop coming to his defence when the other kids pick on him and he supposes standing up for himself to schoolyard bullies is good practice for a life of hunting supernatural evil, but if he hears one more kid call Sammy a 'midget freak' he's going to rip his lungs out.
"Awww, don't worry Sammy," Dean slings an arm around his little brother and ruffles his hair. "You'll hit your growth spurt soon enough. Might be almost as tall as me one day."
.
a/n: i just thought it was cute how the writers made Sam really short as a kid only to grow into a ridiculously tall adult. from "midget freak" to "moose freak" poor sammy. thought i'd play around with it :)
